Hi everyone

I am new to mumsnet. I just signed up today after finding out on Monday that I am expecting a little sister for my 2 year old son Jamie! (Christened James but ended up a Jamie) Really over the moon and have a few names that I have always loved and a couple that I have grown to like more recently. This is a list that both my hubby and I have agreed on.

Holly
Kate (I know some may say this is "boring" but I really do love it. I think it's simple but elegant and I also like Katy as a nickname)
Rosanna/Rosie
Emily (again, a tad "boring." I remember growing up there were tons of Emily's in my school but I feel it's gone down in popularity a bit over the past few years? Or is it still too common do you feel?)
Ramona
Bryony/Briony
Penelope/Penny
Alana (This one is after my grandfather Alan)
And the last one is the "odd" one! This one is a little "out there"...Kendal. My hubby's dad is Kenneth and my grandfather (who I was extremely close to) was Alan, so we feel Kendal is a nice way to combine the two. I also think Kenny is actually quite cute for a little girl. I know compared to the traditional Kate and Emily this one seems a bit of a random throw in the mix.

Would love some honest opinions and am open to further suggestions!

Like all yours but for the ridiculous Kendal.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 07/03/2014 22:06

Great names but LOVE Ramona.

VintageBrunette · 07/03/2014 22:13

I love your choice of names.
I'd say choose Emily or Kate. Even though they are simple, I love the names and they are really pretty.
Oh, and congrats for the baby, we all hope she'll be a cute one!
xx

I really like Kate, Emily, Holly and I quite like Kendal actually! Though I'd use it as a middle name.

Actually the only name I dislike is Bryony, my hatred for this is very intense!

soontobeslendergirl · 07/03/2014 22:38

Allanah is lovely and goes nicely with James

to honor both men how about Allanah Kendra as an alternative to Kendal?

BlueChampagne · 07/03/2014 23:01

Alana
Rosanne
Ramona
Bryony

OP just so you know, Amelia/Emilia is currently the No. 1 girls name in the UK so Emily will be surrounded by many similar sounding friends. You may want a contrast.

I lived in the US for 12 years and Kendall (usually with two "l"s) is v. popular over there so I think it will date quite badly. I would go for something more classic such as Alexandra or Kate - you could also give Kendall as a middle name?

aufaniae · 08/03/2014 07:36

I agree Kendall would be great as a mn. I think these are great

Ramona Kendall
Bryony Kendall
Emily Kendall
Alexandra Kendall

Great responses, thanks everyone! I am starting to lean more to Kendal/Kendall as a middle name as many of you have suggested.

I am also leaning more away from Holly purely for the reason that I like nicknames and shortened versions as an affectionate term. Apart from Hols there isn't much you can do with Holly. Still a long way to go so it may be a case of looking at her and seeing what clicks!! My hubby has also suggested another name after watching a film a few days ago but will post a separate thread about that :) Thanks again all!

Ramona is my favourite by a country mile. Great name.

pommedeterre · 08/03/2014 18:14

Holly!

I have one..!

Know tons of little Emilys.

Glasshammer · 08/03/2014 18:53

Emily and Katie are sweet. Also Lottie.

What about Elaina

Beamur · 08/03/2014 18:59

I like your names, my favourites would be Kate, Rosie, Penelope, not crazy about Alana or Alexandra though. Ramona is an interesting choice.
Kendall is a bit Kardashian for me Grin

Augustwedding · 08/03/2014 19:00

I simply adore kate, any daugther of mine would be kate , congratulations!

HahaHarrie · 08/03/2014 19:15

Holly - Like it.
Kate - Love it! Not keen on Katie, prefer Kitty if you must have a nn.
Rosanna/Rosie - prefer Rose or Rosie.
Emily - It is classic and lovely but not especially exciting.
Ramona - my least favourite of your list.
Bryony/Briony - lovely
Penelope/Penny - I like this more and more, less keen on Penny.
Alana - Nice family touch, but I prefer your other choices.
Kendal - As above. I know a Kendal and a Kendra, both named after fathers called Ken!!
