What do you think of Nate? I really like it but so sure about Nathaniel, is it too biblical or a mouthful?

Also Kit?

Love both although Kit is my favourite. Both sound like confident, cool guys.

bouncingbelle · 24/02/2014 23:28

Love Nate and Nathaniel, not too biblical in my opinion, just really cool but classy names.

Not keen on kit, it sounds like what you wear for PE at school or a baby chinchilla.

AuditAngel · 24/02/2014 23:35

I only know one Nathaniel, he uses his full name.

Don't know a Kit, I think it's too posh for our circle.

DramaAlpaca · 24/02/2014 23:44

Nathaniel is a good, classic name & Nate is a cool nickname.

Kit is OK as an unusual nickname for Christopher.

Chloerose75 · 25/02/2014 00:12

Just had a thought. Can Nate be short for Jonathan?? It does have Nathan in it... Or would people be Confused

Love Nathaniel. Nate is a very cool nickname as well.

aGirlDownUnder1 · 25/02/2014 03:40

Nate is an awesome nickname, Nathaniel is lovely too. Not to sure about Kit though

ginzillas · 25/02/2014 08:39

Love Nathaniel/Nate! It was on our list for a boy. Nate is such a cool name for a little boy but it's good to give him the option of a longer 'official' name. Don't like Kit though, I'm afraid. My hubby is a Chris and we'd never heard of the Christopher/Kit thing until mumsnet!

JC74 · 25/02/2014 08:44

I love both names. I'm trying to persuade DH to have Nathaniel with nn Nate on our list.
I have worked with a Kit - not met another though.

Bowlersarm · 25/02/2014 08:44

Both lovely names.

Nathaniel (much nicer than Jonathan) nn Nate.

And Kit.

AuntieBrenda · 25/02/2014 08:45

Ahem
Nate is the best name in the world ever
(I have one!) his full name
Is nathaniel and
I've only ever heard one other child called the long version around here and he was from Poland.
We call our boy Natey, or noo noo. Don't put noo noo on the birth certificate ;)

noodlebum · 25/02/2014 11:15

I know a few nates - but they are short for nathan? not a huge difference to nathaniel but I think nathan quite popular?

Standinginline · 25/02/2014 11:57

Love Nathaniel / Nate ,but that's because it's my sons name !! Heard the name as Nate but didn't want him Christianed a shortened name. I do sometimes call him Nathan as well.

2beornot · 25/02/2014 11:59

It's our boys name for baby due in summer. Love it!! (Hate Kit btw).

shakinstevenslovechild · 25/02/2014 12:01

I LOVE the name Nathaniel, I have done since the first time I heard War of the Worlds, but dh didn't like it Sad so I wasn't allowed to use it.

It's an unusual name without being too 'out there' and can be shortened a few ways.

thesaurusgirl · 25/02/2014 12:09

Nate is very American, much prefer Nat.

Kit is a bit 'new entrant to the upper middle classes'. It's one of those names like Rupert and Giles that immediately say "posh" whilst being names that actual posh people never use.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 25/02/2014 12:17

The only Nathaniel I know gets called Nat, not Nate - you might not be able to choose!

Chloerose75 · 25/02/2014 20:34

Thanks. Nice to see positive reaction. If I used Nathaniel I would call him Nate right from the beginning so I don't think people would change it to nat. To me nat is a girls name. I am not keen on just Nathan, not sure why!

Puddles1234 · 25/02/2014 20:52

Nathaniel is a gorgeous name. I have a friend called Nathaniel and he is referred to as Nat rather than Nate as PP have stated Nate is more American.

kiwiscantfly · 25/02/2014 20:59

Nathaniel, nn Nate is my no 1 boys name, but as the bump is due to be DD2, I'm not getting anywhere.
Not a fan of Kit.

AuntieBrenda · 25/02/2014 21:29

OP- my DH came across the name Nate and loved it. I didn't want my boy to have a short name as I've got a well short name and always wanted a 'posh' name so we decided on his official name being Nathaniel. I put Nate on his school admission forms etc. go for it! It's a top name! Grin
