Names for our baby girl

So we've done some more thinking and still can't completely agree. Would be interested in others' opinions of these names:

I like:
Matilda
Tess
Cecelia
Valerie
Sylvia
Rose

Husband likes:
Esther
Rachel
Lucy
Lydia

We both like:
Alice
Esther/Tess : I don't like Esther loads but could it be shortened to Tess which I love?

What are your thoughts? Any you love/hate? Surname is one syllable and middle name is likely to be Ann after both of our mothers..

Sylvia and Lydia are gorgeous.

Lovely list. Rose seems a bit dull compared to some of the others, so maybe you might use that as a mn?

Tess, Alice, Valerie, Esther (prefer Hester myself) and Lydia are my favourites. I like Cecily better than Cecelia. Rachel is a nice, classic, underused name too. Esther with Tess as nn is a good idea too.

Oh and I really like Sylvie - nicer than Sylvia imvho.

I would avoid a one syllable first name if the middle name and last name are both only one syllable aswell. I prefer Matilda, Alice and Lydia.

Love Harriet - wanted it for dd2 but dp wasn't keen. Hatty is a brilliant nn.

Okay, Harriet seems popular. Will have to work on that one with DH!

Esther nn Tess is my favourite, I'd not use Tess on its own though. Cecelia or Cecily is also lovely.

I like Harriet best, but all of your choices are nice.

I agree with pp who said don't use three one syllable names, so that rules out rose or Tess (but it's fine as a nickname for Esther).

Rachel is lovely. And really unusual for babies these days.

I like Esther the best. Sylvia and Cecilia spelled this way are also nice.
