Simon Cowell's son's name...born yesterday and named for his father. What do we think?

Oh dear.

chipsandpeas · 15/02/2014 10:42

least hes not been called simon

anyway i think its nice the baby has been called after his father

Ham69 · 15/02/2014 10:44

I really like the name Eric, though when put with surname, does sound like Eric Owl! Quite cute now but maybe not as an adult. Could have been a lot worse though and a nice tribute to Simon's father.

IamInvisible · 15/02/2014 10:46

I think it's lovely they've named the baby after his late father.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/02/2014 11:59

I quite like Eric. I've inly ever met one, he was 7 at the time so I don't see it as an "old man" name as many probably do.

winterhat · 15/02/2014 17:56

I like Eric. It's a good old vintage name due a comeback IMHO.

CaptainCunt · 15/02/2014 19:01

Too many consecutive c's.

HenriettaPie · 15/02/2014 19:04

I met a super cool Eric recently . Bet it now makes a comeback.

Wishyouwould · 15/02/2014 19:37

I think Eric is ok.

2tired2bewitty · 15/02/2014 19:41

I know of two baby Erics, at least one also named for his grandad. I have a feeling their parents might be a bit miffed if it ends up looking like they copied Simon Cowell!

ginzillas · 15/02/2014 22:36

I think it's quite sweet! Lovely to be named after grandad.

Bue · 15/02/2014 22:56

Argh, why do people do this? The Cs crash together! Apart from the fact that it doesn't really work with the surname, I think it's lovely. Nearly everyone in my family has Erik or Erika somewhere in their name, so I approve of the name.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 16/02/2014 13:33

Nice idea, nice first name, terrible pairing.

HoneyandRum · 16/02/2014 13:37

Eric never became naff in the USA so it doesn't need a comeback there. Will be seen as quite uncontroversial over there. It will be a name that will work in both nations.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 16/02/2014 14:55

Are there a lot of US Erics then ?

HoneyandRum · 16/02/2014 15:08

I lived there 12+ years and none of the connotations that we have with the name exist there. It is often spelt with a K. Erica/Erika is also popular, although maybe more in the 80s/90s. It's seen as a much more neutral name like Matthew.

Remember Colin and Ian are exotic to them!

MauriceMinor · 16/02/2014 16:51

I like Eric.

What I don't like is the idea that the mother appears to have had little say in the naming of her child.

To call him after his late grandfather is lovely, but his father and grandfather's middle name too? She never even met Simon's father. It's as though because he has all the money and power he gets to choose the name... Like a little extension to his empire.

Suzietwo · 16/02/2014 19:19

Erik would have been slightly better

HoneyandRum · 16/02/2014 20:57

MauriceMinor surely you are not suggesting that Simon Cowell is a Narcisscist?

TheArticFunky · 16/02/2014 21:00

Eric is already on the way back. I know of a couple of preschoolers and a baby called Eric.

SpocksThirdEar · 16/02/2014 21:04

Yuk. Sorry. But then I am biased as it's my dads name and we do not speak.

And yes, Eric Owl was my second thought!

Britishseamonkey · 19/02/2014 22:05

I know several Eric/ Erik / Eryk s
The pairing is unfortunate but I didn't even blink at the name
