Guid Scottish baby names...suggestions please!

Does anybody have any suggestions for Scottish baby names? We live in England but would love a nod to my heritage. I really like Murdo but DH doesn't actually believe it's a real name (sigh) and had pretty much decided on Elspeth if we have a girl but have now realised Elsie might be a bit overused!?! I'd love something uncommon but also traditional....any ideas?

Hi - this thread is a little old. If you’re looking for a Scottish baby name, find the most popular here. MNHQ

We really are lucky with some fab names.

My own suggestion would be... Pick one that is unambiguous to spell, particularly if you're down south. I have a 'funny spelling' name and it's a bit of a pain now but I hated it growing up.

It's also the reason that DS isn't a Ruaridh!

These are all lovely. Not sure if someone has said Ailsa, Blythe or Douglas.

Some great names been recommended.
Being Scottish there are some names on the list I've never heard of. Galic names with Galic spellings are not that commonly used and most people would struggle to spell them and pronounce them!
Love Elspeth and the ones I know the name has never been shortened.

Ailsa

Mariotta... Scottish girl's name....

I like Sorley. I also know a Munro which I like as well. Hamish and Hector are also v good (there's a discussion about these on an earlier thread: Hamish seems to be wining.

Archibald (my granddad's name) means genuine & bold

Cameron (my best friend's son's name)

Munro is very cool and I love Eilidh for a girl it's both strong but soft & feminine :o)
