My dp and I only agree on one name for our ds due soon. Unfortunately it is a bit similar to our dd's name. I don't want to say the names but Fiona and Finn would be a good example as in they have the same initial and share another letter/sound. We have not done this deliberately, but is this what people will think? Are we going to be mocked?!

I wouldnt say mocked but people may wonder why youve picked something so similar.

I know a couple who have a son Robert and a a daighter Robin and everyone is a bit Confused

But hey, as long as you like it.

A man I used to work with had two children with VERY similar names. His 10 year old daughter was called Lucy and his 8 year old son was called Lucas.

Lucy and Lucas Hmm I have always thought it sounded a bit odd. I've since heard on the grapevine they have very recently had another son, I wonder what they called this one.... Smile

But seriously, people have all kinds of different reactions to hearing children's names, what occurs to one person would never occur to another so don't worry about trying to please others. If you both genuinely like the name then just go for it Smile

My friend has a Graham and Grace. Grace was named after her grandmother. I don't think it's ever been crtiticised.

I wouldn't do it though I am quite funny about these things!

I think people may wonder if there is a reason behind it or some sort of theme.

I guess it depends on how similar the names are - Lucy & Lucas are very similar but you might get away with something like Joanna and Joel (just?!).

I don't think it matters - they will not spend most of their lives going about as a pair will they?

However, I do know someone with an Euan and an Eve which I find a bit odd but that's mainly because they are actualy quite hard to say together - well, maybe that's just me.

My sister in law has
Riley
Rosey
Rorey
I actually think it works well for them but i personally wouldnt pick names so similar, although both my dc's have the same amount of letters in their first name x

I know a Luke & Lucy, don't find it weird.

SS3J · 27/01/2014 15:53

Great, thanks, that's all very reassuring. The names are not as similar as some of the examples so I feel happy we can go with it! Thanks all x

I have friends with two similar names, similar (but not this) to 'Thea and Pheobe' so a similar sound, her DDs get confused who she is calling when she calls them in from the garden etc! other than that, it isn't a problem and I'm glad she went with names she liked.
