They're both beautiful names.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2014 22:21

I'd reassure your friend that you love the names she has chosen and she should ignore the negative comments. Whatever name you choose, someone won't like it.

I'd also ask M?nHQ to delete this thread.

notso · 23/01/2014 22:21

I will be kind and say not to my taste, seeing as you have said you are showing her the thread.

TamerB · 23/01/2014 22:22

I dislike them both, especially Daphne, but I don't see that it matters- someone will always hate your choice.

ditsydoll · 23/01/2014 22:25

Why would I need to delete the thread? She doesn't use mn and if anyone recognised the names the only person that might out would be me surely.. all that is onhere is that someone, ssomewhere in the world is pregnant and thinking of naming her babies Daphne and Odette.. even if she where ever to use mn who ever uses names when posting? I really don't see the issue?

When we told fil and his wife that we were thinking of calling ds1 Oscar, they pulled faces and said "isn't that a bit....effeminate? You know...like Oscar Wilde?" and made that limp wristed motion that idiots use to depict gay men.

We just Hmm at them.

Oscar is 12 now. We cared for their opinion not a jot.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2014 22:27

If you search Odette and daphne its currently the second item down on google.

ditsydoll · 23/01/2014 22:28

I love Oscar, beautiful name. Everyone has their opinions I suppose, I just didn't understand such bad comments about what I thought where such beautiful unique names.

And?

OP posts:
Yama · 23/01/2014 22:31

I had a friend called Odette at school. I thought it was a lovely name.

GlitzAndGiggles · 23/01/2014 22:37

I've never heard Odette before. I think Daphne is quite cute. I've met 2 Daphne's in my life and they were both lovely

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/01/2014 22:39

And, if it doesn't bother you that her friends, family, colleagues might google the names and come across you discussing them ont'internet, that's fine Smile

ditsydoll · 23/01/2014 22:44

Why on earth would her friends, family or colleagues Google her baby names?
And even if they did and saw that Ud Saud that my friend was thinking of using the names and I thought they where lovely, where exactly is the harm?

Sorry for typos, I'm on my phone

I am genuinely sorry if Iv offended anyone by posting this but my friend really won't be bothered and I only had good intentions..

They are lovely names, but not very current, so people who like 'in' names might find them unusual. But then for me unusual would be a bonus.
Actually the more I think about it, the more I like them as a pair and separately.

Leeds2 · 23/01/2014 22:50

I love Odette. Wouldn't choose Daphne.

Gunznroses · 23/01/2014 22:50

Like Odette very much. Not so sure about Daphne...they both sound a bit like opposites of each other, Odette is smart, bright and independent, and then there's daft Daphne....... Please ignore me entirely and if this is what your friend likes go for it, the person will ultimately make the name.

DottyboutDots · 24/01/2014 05:38

Lovely names. Odette was on my list and Daphne is due a comeback. I was surprised by how I though 'ooh Daphne, that does sound nice'.

Oriunda · 24/01/2014 07:25

Ethics of you asking aside, I think they are lovely names.

DelGirl · 24/01/2014 07:31

I hope your friend's not on mumsnet!

winkywinkola · 24/01/2014 07:43

Lovely names.

squoosh · 24/01/2014 12:05

Daffy and Dodie?

I think I'd rather be Dodie.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/01/2014 15:21

Classic names, lovely.
