i love the names Miranda , Dorothea and Theodora. Dh , however 'needs to be convinced of their merits. If i don't get to use either of them as a first name i'm almost certain her mns will be Miranda Dorothea or Miranda Theodora .Although i will definitely avoid the initials W M D .

FixItUpChappie · 24/01/2014 05:37

It like Miranda and Cedric the best out of the choices.

MissPryde · 24/01/2014 05:58

I love Winifred. And you could use the nickname Winnie you mentioned later.

For boys I like Edmund and Frederick.

Also, ten children! You must be wonder woman!

Oriunda · 24/01/2014 07:24

What a fabulous list of girls' names!

I love Persephone, that was my first choice if DS had been a girl.
Cassandra and Cecilia also good (although prefer Celia, As You Like It being one of my favourite Shakespeare plays .... Have you considered Rosalind?)
Miranda and Georgiana fine too.

Not so keen on boys' but like Edmund and Raphael.

oldbutnotpastit · 24/01/2014 11:29

we can't use Rosalind as an immediate close family member has that name but i do really like the idea of Shakespearean name .
i really like Persephone and Cassandra but the meaning of Persephone bothers me and the mythological story of both is not exactly positive .
Miranda and Celia both have lovely meanings which is important to me . This baby was a surprised I really don't want him or her to feel short changed by their name iyswim which is why i would like the name to have a positive meaning .
Cecilia is a favourite but i have a slight lisp and i worry it might be to sibilant.
Greta simplicity and the fact that it is strong yet feminine also make it a contender .
Josephine is also lovely because it has so many potential nns i especially like posy .It's potential to suit any character from tomboy to dainty is in its favour .
I've also thought about the name Sabrina today and wonder what anyone thinks ?
for boys i really like Edmund nn Ted /Teddy as a baby/toddler but i'm not keen on Ed /Eddie as nns and once their named you have minimal control about how nns evolve and that once you love your child any nn that occurs you'd embrace as it is their name. Having said none of the other children like to be called by anything but their full names .
i like Raphael but wonder if it is to much of a theme with Gabriel and might be a bit twee .
Naming babies while fun just doesn't get any easier . i think i may have just keep trying names out and see which one sticks .

See I think of Persephone as being the bringer of spring. The 6 months she spends in the underworld are autumn/winter, then she returns to the surface and everything starts to grow again.

oldbutnotpastit · 24/01/2014 12:36

oriunda that is a much more positive meaning . i needto start persuading dh that it is a useable and lovely name,

MadIsTheNewNormal · 24/01/2014 12:39

Raphael or Frederick for a boy.

Georgiana, Cecelia, Theodora or Genevieve for a girl.

Girls : not keen on any so can't help there
Boys: Jeremiah, Josiah

MadIsTheNewNormal · 24/01/2014 21:17

Sabrina is lovely and totally under-used.

squoosh · 24/01/2014 21:21

Sabrina is one of those names that half my brain associates with Audrey Hepburn and the other half associates with that topless Italian popstar who sang .

Oriunda · 24/01/2014 21:32

Miranda, Cassandra, Cecilia, Clarissa ..... prefer Cassandra
Edmund

oldbutnotpastit · 24/01/2014 21:36

squoosh never heard of the italian popstar but i do associate Sabrina with the Teenage witch not sure whether that's a positive or negative especially as we already have a Tabitha.

OP posts:
ODearMe · 24/01/2014 21:37

Rosanna or Wilfred

MajesticWhine · 24/01/2014 21:39

Miranda and Edmund.
But preferred Theodora and Raphael from your original list

BabyMummy29 · 24/01/2014 21:39

Nope, don't like any of those at all. They're all a bit fancy for my liking.
