Bonkers girls name or would you consider it?

UriGeller · 21/01/2014 14:44

I love it but then I'm a Borrowers fan Wink

dollywashers · 21/01/2014 14:45

I love it too. Not sure whether it's too much

I love it, but instantly think of the Borrowers too. Definitely more useable than Homily or Pod Wink

Cataline · 21/01/2014 14:50

Borrowers immediately springs to mind but I think that's a good thing! Love it Grin

Tomkat79 · 21/01/2014 15:09

I know an Arietta...known as Ari. Love it.

FantasticFabby · 21/01/2014 15:11

Love it.

Borrowers connection doesn't bother me.

Would use in a flash if dh liked it Sad

TunipTheUnconquerable · 21/01/2014 15:12

Bonkers but why the hell not!
Unless she is likely to be either very small or very tall.

DramaAlpaca · 21/01/2014 15:12

It's cute & pretty but maybe a bit too Borrowers-ish.

Love Arietta.

squoosh · 21/01/2014 15:29

Bonkers.

And I always think it sounds as though an H has been dropped 'Arietty fanks you most 'umbly' Sir for your kind donation to the 'Ome for Horphaned waifs and strays'.

(that was meant to sound a bit Dickens-y)

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 21/01/2014 15:49

I like it a lot. And Amity, too.

MrsRV · 21/01/2014 16:38

no borrowers connection here... assume one if them is an Arietty.

Love Love Love Arietta. will be suggesting this to hubby tonight but as it's not top 5 it's likely to be a big fat NO.

Rosencrantz · 22/01/2014 14:08

Dreadful. Sounds like Harriet-y with a northern accent.

BunnyLebowski · 22/01/2014 14:09

Awful.

Just awful.

curlew · 22/01/2014 14:10

"Bonkers but why the hell not!"

Because you are naming a human being who is unable to contribute or consent to the process, so has a right to expect that choice not to be bonkers.

BrickorCleat · 22/01/2014 14:14

As far as my creaky memory goes, she was named Arrietty because it was all bits of name borrowed from Big People Upstairs.

She might get a know-all in her class who knows this.

Or worse, someone light fingered

I think you're exposing her to too much potential teasing for the sake of a self-indulgent whim.

still bitter I didn't get Clover or Araminta

Rhubarbgarden · 22/01/2014 14:33

I love it. I heard of a small one called this recently and was Envy because it doesn't work with our surname.

dizhin79 · 24/01/2014 05:46

love it and love Arietta both are now on my list too, sorry Blush

nirishma · 24/01/2014 05:51

Sounds a bit toffee-nosed. You might have to fork out for a private school with a name like that, no?

MissPryde · 24/01/2014 06:01

I love it. Beautiful name. I love the Borrowers connection, the book is a classic, I think it's absolutely useable.

It might even go on my future name list. Grin

justhayley · 24/01/2014 12:00

Would the next generation know the borrowers?
I used to called myself it as a child - it was always my play name Grin
Not sure I'd use it though, would you consider Harriet & use it as a nn?

TunipTheUnconquerable · 24/01/2014 12:02

'Would the next generation know the borrowers?'

No, if they figure out it's a made-up name they'll think it's from Game of Thrones.
