I feel that May suits as a middle name with most of my preferred girls names. Could you please give me suggestions of other similar names that might also go well.

For example i like Vivienne May and Ida May and Ella May...

Based on what you've said:

Faye
Lou / Louise
Rose
Lucy
Beth / Elizabeth
Kaye / Kay
Jo / Johanna / Josephine

It really depends on the first name you're matching the middle name on.

Clare works with Vivienne (but not for Ida - I declare - or Ella – sounds like eclair)

Imnotsurehowtogetthisout · 20/01/2014 17:19

Thank you both for replies. I like Rose.

Anne?

Rose is a good middle name imo.

May is the nicest that's been suggested so far, though, I think.

I think it depends very much on the number of syllables in the first name.

If you've got quite a few syllables in there, or it's quite singy-songy (Poppy, Isla, Emily, for example) I think a mono-syllabic name fits well and sounds good.

well the go-to middle names of Marie, Louise and Jane for our generation and Rose, May and Grace for our children's are so popular because they work with most names I guess.

Agree that Vivienne Claire is nice.

Also:
Vivienne Elise
Ida Catherine (or even Ida Vivienne?)
Ella Nicole

I wasn't sure if it was funny to use May for a baby not born in May...is it?? How about the spelling Mae?

I'd avoid anything similar tbh and just go for a name you like as much as the first. When I was born, everyone got Anne, now everyone gets may or Mae. It's pretty boring, then there was Jane, Louise etc. if you ask a group of people about middle names, they will likely have one of about 5-6 names!

what bout a normal nice name as middle name rather than a name "classed" as a middle name iyswim?! much more original and more thought out in many wants? (though I didn't give my kids middle names at all - hard enoug finding one!)

I always think middle names should either honour someone you admire - family, friend or other hero, or be something you don't quite dare use as a first name but love.

If I couldn't choose a name that worked and fitted one of those categories I just wouldn't bother.

we have an Ella Rose... ruled out Ella Jane (sis in law middle name), Ella May, Ella Ray (my dad said it sounded a bit country & western) Ella Wren (hubby vetoed as a 1st name), Ella Claire (my middle name).
