Do you like or loathe the above?

As a nickname for something or as a full name? I've known Greek Demis (short for Demetria) but on it's own it just makes me think "half".

HairyPotter · 14/01/2014 14:26

Loathe, sorry.

Possible because the only one I know is vile. Which is pretty irrational I realise. Blush

scaevola · 14/01/2014 14:26

i like it as a nn. Either for Demetria (like Demi Moore) or the goddess name Demeter.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/01/2014 14:31

I don't mind it but I utterly despise it when it's hyphenated with something else. Just Demi on its own is on the nice side of ok IYSWIM :)

TwatWeevil · 14/01/2014 14:32

Loathe, sorry.

gruffalosfriend · 14/01/2014 14:33

Demi = Half

That's all I think when I see/hear demi.

gruffalosfriend · 14/01/2014 14:34

Demetria, on the other hand, is very pretty.

blackandwhiteandredallover · 14/01/2014 14:34

Only if it's short for Demelza- love that name!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 14/01/2014 14:36

I would have loved to call one of my DDs Demelza but Dh wouldn't have it :(

ToffeeJungle · 14/01/2014 14:44

Loathe.

QueenTea33 · 14/01/2014 14:47

I loathe it. I think it's because it was hugely popular in our area a while ago. Nothing wrong with that, but where I live, it's pronounced "Demmehh" and it sounds bloody awful.

soontobeslendergirl · 14/01/2014 14:53

It has to be loath I'm afraid - I don't mind any of the longer versions given above, but on it's own I can only associate it with the ubiquitous hyphenated Demi-Lee, Demi-Leigh, Demi-Jade, Demi-Roses etc etc.

squoosh · 14/01/2014 15:00

Don't like I'm afraid, it's too linked with one celeb for my liking. On a par with calling a girl Britney or Sigourney.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/01/2014 17:48

Loathe. And too often hyphenated with something.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/01/2014 18:18

Loathe it.

sausageandorangepickle · 14/01/2014 20:42

An ex colleague named her daughter this and spent years trying to get everyone to pronounce it de-ME, but it was always demi to rhyme with semi, and she (the colleague) ended up not liking it at all because of this. Her second daughter ended up with a really traditional, easily spelt and always-pronounced-the-same-way name as a result.

Only1scoop · 14/01/2014 20:43

Loathe especially if all hyphenated up....

hawkmcqueen · 15/01/2014 07:03

Loathe sorry

Tibby2 · 15/01/2014 09:34

Thats an all round loathe then! :)
