Are Amelie and Emily too close?
My brother named his little girl Emily and we really like Amelie?
What do you think...

Definitely not. Emily and Amelie are basically the same name!

Names are meant to identify us.

No, too similar.

But they are going to living in different countries to each other and additionally, the OP has said that she will be known as Milly anyway. If they were going to be growing up in close proximity to each other it may be something to consider, however, I really don't think it's remotely a problem, and if they love the name Amelie, they should go for it. It wouldn't worry me in the slightest if my siblings used a similar name for their DC as I had for mine. A complete non-issue IMO.

Definitely go for it. I have two sisters and they both had girls first and they're called Emily and Amelia respectively, it's fine. And it's a gorgeous name.

Bowlersarm · 14/01/2014 12:57

I think it's fine, but I think I would speak to my brother first if I were you. We have first cousins with the same name in my extended family. Your db may be totally ok about it, or he might not, and I wouldn't risk a family feud.

Mim78 · 14/01/2014 15:31

If they won't be seeing each other often then can't see the problem.

It is a totally different name.

I don't actually like it but that is not your question!

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/01/2014 18:21

They're only cousins. It's fine. I'm not at all close to my cousins. I don't know many people who are in adulthood.
