And would you use them?

I thought I would celebrate my recent NC with a thread so here is is :)

My favourite names from books are Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and bone, Katnis from The Hungers Games and Ayla from Earths Children. If I was to have a girl I think I would use Karou.

notice that my top two are made up names that begin with K MNettersGrin

I love Katniss - if hunger games wasn't so big at the moment I would love to use it!

Rosencrantz · 11/01/2014 16:25

Katniss isn't a made up name. It's just another flower, albeit a less popular one.

Finabhear · 11/01/2014 17:59

Now you mention it I remember that from the book rose

Dorothea :)

Rhubarbgarden · 11/01/2014 22:15

Fuchsia from Gormanghast and Tintagieu (Tanty for short) from Mr Pye, both by Mervyn Peake.

Uptheairymountain · 11/01/2014 22:34

Margery.

Probably not my favourite name, but if the heroine's called this, I always enjoy the book (can only think of Robert Neill's Mist Over Pendle and Sheri Tepper's Grass for now, but there are others).

squoosh · 11/01/2014 23:23

Katniss reminds me of catnip.

Marian. Not my favourite name but Marian Halcombe is my favourite literary heroine.

IHeartKingThistle · 11/01/2014 23:28

Gotta love Bathsheba Everdene from Far from the Madding Crowd.

Actually, isn't Katniss an Everdeen? Maybe it's a nod to Thomas Hardy! They both have to choose between men, don't they? Or am I thinking too much into this?

Finabhear · 12/01/2014 08:00

Bathsheba is a great name. My RL name is from Thomas Hardy :)

I think Arya and Sansa from GOT are pretty.

I have a Romilly from The Autumn Ghosts Smile

MummyBeerest · 12/01/2014 08:42

I used Scarlett!

Toyed with the idea of Katie Scarlett.

I always liked Elizabeth Bennet...

Rhubarbgarden · 12/01/2014 09:38

Oh yes Bathsheba is fabulous

stinkingbishop · 12/01/2014 17:08

Oh and Lara from Dr Zhivago.

CinnamonSummer · 12/01/2014 19:47

I love Karou from the same book op! Also loving a Hunger Games name, but it's Primrose rather than Katniss. Wouldn't use Karou, but considering Primrose!

DandyDan · 12/01/2014 20:16

Hester

MyNameIsKenAdams · 12/01/2014 20:19

My dd has literary first and middle names and would loe to continue the trend with any further dds. Not brave enough to use Katniss though.

Minerva?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 12/01/2014 23:16

Lyra - His Dark Materials
Susan - Discworld
Alanna - Song of the Lioness

badtime · 13/01/2014 00:01

Rowena, from Ivanhoe (although Rebecca of York is a better character).

greeneyes1978 · 13/01/2014 01:08

My friend has an Ayla after the book :)

stinkingbishop · 13/01/2014 07:22

And Heloise, from Heloise and Abelard.

Iseult/Isolde.

Hero.

Clarissa.

Finabhear · 13/01/2014 08:10

Love Isolde!

Never liked the name Rowena, I know someone who changed he name from Emilia to Rowena. Never saw the point

Sorry

I love the name Hermione. I really do. Being a Bowie fan, I wanted Hermione Jean. Slightly obscure... surely not enough to get a dd teased for the reference.

Rowling fucked that one up for me. Sad

NigellasDealer · 13/01/2014 08:23

Titty
Hollie Golightly

Finabhear · 13/01/2014 10:04

Hollie Golightly is a fab name.

Thinking about it there are a few RL names that would make great book names. DS has a friend called Jack Fox I always thought that that name would fit a detective.

MissPryde its funny that she had the opposite effect on the name Harry? I love Hermione too but I don't think I would use it for the same reason you state.
