This is for potential baby number 2. I love it and think it goes well with our first son's name but DH isn't sure and would rather a 'proper name' so I am trying to work out what it could be short for.

So far I have got Abraham/Abram or Bertram. Any other ideas at all?

Sorry, but a big no, it just makes me think of Bramley apples......

It could be short for Bramwell (Bronte)

kelda · 08/01/2014 18:52

It's a germanic name in it;s own right.

Frikadellen · 08/01/2014 18:52

Braham
Bramwel
Bramley

Kinda cool on its own though.

However I think people will make Dracula comments ( Bram Stoker)

Bowlersarm · 08/01/2014 18:53

Bram Stokers real name is Abraham, if that helps.

OhCaptainDarling · 08/01/2014 18:53

I know a Bram, but his mothers Swedish if that makes any difference?!

Rosa · 08/01/2014 18:54

I would think you had said Pram!

NotJustACigar · 08/01/2014 18:54

Not sure why it matters that the name goes well with your first child's name? That said, Abraham isn't bad.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/01/2014 18:55

Really like it, don't know any but like it lots. I'd probably go with Abraham but any of the options are nice.

SS3J · 08/01/2014 18:56

It was Branwell Brontë, but could still work. I quite like Bram on its own actually. I think it's cool.

lottiegarbanzo · 08/01/2014 18:56

I've met one, who I think is Belgian.

DawnOfTheDee · 08/01/2014 18:57

Makes me think of Stoker/Dracula but I think that's a good thing.

I really like it. Smile

honeybeeridiculous · 08/01/2014 19:01

Bram Stoker?! He of Dracula, it's an ok name, neither love it or hate it

TalkativeJim · 08/01/2014 19:08

Yes I know one, short for Abraham, very nice and I wouldn't have said unusual!

Also a Bram Stoker.

TalkativeJim · 08/01/2014 19:08

Grin just Bram Stoker. No need for the a.

DancingLady · 08/01/2014 19:10

I like Abraham, and Abe is a nice nn. Bram ok but not as nice...

YoMamma · 08/01/2014 19:13

I think it's great. I would go with Abraham.

MotheringShites · 08/01/2014 19:15

Isn't it another GoT name?

SofaKing · 08/01/2014 19:17

Bran is from GoT, it is short for Brandon in the books.

I like Bram and Bran Smile

CaptainCunt · 08/01/2014 19:21

I know a baby Bramwell nn Bram, lovely name and lovely shortening.

TalkativeJim · 08/01/2014 19:24

There are surely a lot of names one could make out of Bram...

Bramley
Brammison
Bramarian
Bramold
Bramaunce

I think (although maybe wrong, am not an Afrikaans speaker) that Bram or Braam is a name in its own right - I've known two who had it as their full name.

beatofthedrum · 08/01/2014 19:25

It does sound like an apple but I like it!

glittershoes · 08/01/2014 19:31

Thanks for the responses.

I would just go with Bram personally but I was hoping to get DH onside with a more official name that could be shortened!

I quite like Abraham but it is fairly grand which makes me unsure. As for whether it goes with DC1's name - I suppose it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but personally I would like them to be vaguely the same 'type' of name. For me, it would seem slightly bizarre to have a Bram and a Kyle for example. Nothing wrong with either but very different.
