Ophelia, too similar to Amelia?

Hi all, hoping you can give me your opinions! Our beautiful baby girl arrived on Saturday, and our 'front runner' for her name is Ophelia. Her cousin is called Amelia, do you think that's a problem?

We're also going to use Amelia's middle name as one of our daughter's middle names, but that's pretty non negotiable as it's a family name.

Thanks!

I suppose it depends on how often you see Amelia. If you see them regularly, then I think the names are too close, but if they live a long way away, and you only see them every so often, then go for it.

No I don't think it's too similar for cousins. If they were siblings then maybe. But both will probably be shortened and the nicknames won't be similar. (That said I'm not sure what Ophelia shortens to, do you have something in mind?)

I don't think they are too similar for cousins.

Unless you live in each other's pockets I think it's fine for cousins (I was going to say too close for sisters!)

Out of nosiness interest what NN are you thinking of for Ophelia?

winkywinkola · 07/01/2014 15:29

I have an Ophelia. Her best pal is Amelia. But their nns are Fifi and Milly.

Go for it.

Fine for cousins. Only a problem if the names are frequently coupled together I think.

BunnyLebowski · 07/01/2014 15:42

I don't think it matters.

Ophelia is much nicer than Ameila too. If you love it, use it.

AnythingNotEverything · 07/01/2014 15:44

Ophelia is lovely, and not a problem with a cousin called Amelia in my mind.

The Ophelia I know has the nn Fifi, which I'm not keen on personally.

I opened this thinking the names were for siblings and I logged on to say NO!! I can't see a problem with cousins though unless the girls are going to be together A LOT!

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/01/2014 18:19

As I said to someone else on this board - they're only cousins.

wigglesrock · 07/01/2014 18:22

No you're grand with cousins. I have cousins with the same name, both first & surname. They live a fair distance apart, tbh I never even thought twice about it until I mentioned it on MN Smile
