Pax, short for Patrick?

What do you think of Pax (Latin for peace)? Do you think a Patrick could have Pax as a nickname?

(Disclaimer: I'm not pregnant, just being weird and enjoying compiling short list for future imaginary son!)

hmm Pax makes me immediately think of Paxo stuffing. No Patrick i know is called Pax for short, but that doesn't mean you can't use it ... dying to know what else is on the short list !

No I have never heard that version.

It's also the name of our ikea wardrobes. Sorry..

Hmmm not keen.

It's very Brangelina which is totally at odds with the down to earth awesomeness of Patrick.

No, sorry.

So far I have Asa, Basil, Diggory, Herbert (Herbie) and Raymond (big favourite). Would be a sibling for Clio. Love imaginary name game, thank you for joining in!

You're trying very hard with that.

Raymond is great

Damn it! Really not a try hard type of person (honest!). It's so hard to come up with anything slightly different for a boy, especially without any non-English cultural references. Bob or Dave it is, then!

Just call him Pax. Patrick is Paddy... Pax is odd and very try hard when Patrick has such established nicknames in Paddy and Pat.

I'm also thinking Pax Americana... but that says more about me and my interests than the name, iyswim.

paki/packie is a recognised and relatively common nickname in ireland for patrick and padraig in the older generation....obviously not common now due to its negative associations with racial abuse..but pac or pax isnt a far off spell from there.

I would just go with pax if you like it tho...why complicate things with a different name in everyday use versus official documents

Pax is nice.

But Patrick will be Pat, Patty or Paddy.

MadameDefarge · 29/12/2013 22:22

Packie is another Irish diminuitive for Patrick.

Not a good look, really.

My other brother is called Dominic. Which I love.

Extremely contrived. Don't pick nicknames, they evolve. Even decent ones.

I know a Patrick who gets called Trick or Tricky.

I knew someone who was "Patch" short for Patrick.
Never heard Pax as a nickname and I know a lot of Patricks - Pat, Paddy, Patsy (yes really Grin)

I like it! I like a traditional name with a modern feeling nn, it's the best of both worlds!

Rex for richard too. Patrick is a great name. Paudge is dreadful. Pax way better. Know an elderly patch. Patch and pax not miles apart (phonetically)
