Dp and I have (nearly) agreed yay! Dd1 is Chloe and I think Chloe and Ellie "go" well.

But 2 potential ishs which is appreciate advice on.

  1. surname begins with "e" too but is an "e" as in Emma sound rather than "ee" of Evie if that makes sense?! So different E phonetically but same initial. Is that a problem?

  2. I love Ellie on its own but does it need to be short for sonething? If so I really dislike Eleanor and Ellen and all variants of spellings (sorry) so what else could it be?

Hmm...well most on here will say she needs a long version to Give Her A Choice (yet Sarahs and Claires dont have a Choice!) but Im a big advocate of naming your child what you intend to call them.

DD has a 'nickname' on her BC. I dont care.

Its the Ellie E.... that would concern me. So, for an example, Ellie Evans. Kind of has a nice ring to it. Stick a V middle name in and you get EVE which would.make a great nickname Grin

I know.of.a baby Ellie who is just Ellie and noone has ever said a word against the name.

No comments on the name / surname, my mother is a J ane J ones (married name) and it's always been ok for her.

If you don't like Eleanor and Ellen, perhaps consider:

Elle
Elia (Ellie-a)
Elowen
Ellery

BananaHammocks · 17/12/2013 18:30

Eliana?

LauraChant · 17/12/2013 18:32

Elizabeth?

ToffeeJungle · 17/12/2013 18:33

I personally wouldnt go for a first name beginning with the same letter as the surname - but that's just me!
Something like Ellie Esher sounds better to me than Ellie Emmett though for example.

Ellie could be short for Eloise, Elle, Ella, Elizabeth.

Clawdy · 17/12/2013 20:15

Eloise?

Clawdy · 17/12/2013 20:16

Sorry Toffee just saw your thread!

Elsie, I don't instantly get Ellie, but it is her NN.

Very confusingly so as there are two Eleanor, Ellies in that year.

They are teens, but do check we have a lot if Es

Eliza

BartBaby · 18/12/2013 09:21

My dd1 is I think going to be Elena with nn Ellie. I personally like to have a more adult name for if they would rather use that when they are older, but I don't see a problem with Ellie on its own.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 18/12/2013 17:55

I love Ellie - a friend had a girl last year and named her Elli, and a long form of it is top of my short list so I am biased g.

For long version I like Eliza and Eleri - the one of my list is Elinor.

TheGreatCatsby · 19/12/2013 23:34

I have an Ellie. She even has the cardinal MN sin middle name of Mae! She at 14 loves her name and is the least chavvy girl I know!

peppinagiro · 20/12/2013 11:07
