How do you say it?

I know how I say it but interested in what the variations might be.

Or - rell - ee- a

Only because the only one I know pronounces it like this.

cranberryorange · 14/12/2013 14:12

Or-ray-leah

HyvaPaiva · 14/12/2013 14:24

Or-REHL-yah

picnicbasketcase · 14/12/2013 14:25

The way that cranberryorange said up there ^

AppleAndBlackberry · 14/12/2013 14:27

o ray lee a

There was one in Love Actually, I think it's a lovely name, also love Aurelie

badtime · 14/12/2013 15:31

I would ask.

I'm surprised at this thread - I would have thought most people would pronounce it Or-eel-ya or Or-eel-ee-a unless the 'Aurelia' in question was from another country.

And 'Aurelie' would mostly be pronounced 'orally'.

TobyLerone · 14/12/2013 15:34

Yy I like Aurelie better, but here it would be pronounced 'orally' :(

I would pronounce Aurelia as Or-eel-ee-a.

Writerwannabe83 · 14/12/2013 15:54

Or - Ray - Lee - A

Writerwannabe83 · 14/12/2013 15:54

It should be said like the character out of Love Actually - it's a beautiful name Smile

Frontdoorstep · 14/12/2013 17:53

Au reel ee a.

SirChenjin · 14/12/2013 18:00

Or RELL ee ah

I love it - wanted it for DD, but DH vetoed it and DD confirms that she would have changed her name by deed poll if I had called her that. They know nothing.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/12/2013 18:46

I agree Sir, they are both wrong

ZombiePenguin · 15/12/2013 20:49

Or-REEL-ee-uh.

Jellymum1 · 15/12/2013 20:57

I like aurora, so aurelia sounds lovely to me. Problem is i cant find one person to agree with me and until i do hubby says it cant go on the list :(

IHeartKingThistle · 15/12/2013 21:00

I love it but was put off when someone pointed out it sounds like the bit around a nipple (areola?). It doesn't! But I couldn't stop mixing them up after that Angry Grin

lilyaldrin · 15/12/2013 21:00

I'd say Orrellia though I know a couple of little Polish Ow-ray-lias.

BananaHammocks · 15/12/2013 21:03

I'd say Ow-Ray-Lia, like in Love Actually.

Jellymum1 · 15/12/2013 21:03

Oh dont i like rhea but someone said last week what if the kids call her diarrhea!!! I am gutted as i cant stop thinking that now

lalalonglegs · 15/12/2013 21:19

It's Italian so strictly speaking it should be pronounced OW-reh-lia with the OW rhyming with HOW (but then Claudia should be CLOW-dia - like cloudier - and Laura LOW-ra). I think most people will pronounce it Orellia.

badtime · 15/12/2013 22:32

Technically it's not Italian, it's Latin.

(I have never heard anyone who is speaking English pronounce 'Aurelius' (usually when talking about Marcus Aurelius) in any way other than 'or-eel-ee-us', which is why the preference for other pronunciations of the feminine version surprised me.)

MarEl · 16/12/2013 03:21

One of my ex boyfriends has a daughter called Aurelia and it is pronounced Orelleea, the first bit is like oral but with an e. Or alternatively, or as in the word, elle as in the magazine and leea as in the name Leah.

allyfe · 16/12/2013 23:10

Never thought of orally for Aurelie!!! But it is so true in this country. I have only heard it in France. Shame because in French it is beautiful.

TheMuppetsSingChristmas · 17/12/2013 20:14

Oh-ray-lee-ah, but with the Oh being relatively soft, though not as soft as just 'o' iyswim.
