I went with Nicolas as it's so easy to import/export wherever you are and whatever language is spoken... but wished I had gone with Javier as I think Javi would have been a good nn for him

almapudden · 13/12/2013 21:29

I like Ignacio and Santiago.

Umlauf · 13/12/2013 21:32

Andres is lovely. So is Mateo.

I teach in Spain so lots of kids' names and I like:

Xabier
Ander
Endika
Alberto
Anton
Hugo
Fermin
Ignacio
Joseba
Oliver
Imanol
Markel
Manex (pron Manesh)
Julen
Inigo (badass!)

(NB some of these are regional to the area I live in)
(NNB I probably like a lot of them by association to lovely owners)

Leaning towards Emilio from all the comments, DH loves it
Or Andrés, my favorite but worried on pronunciation...

It's a shame an acquaintance already named her son Emilio (well actually Emilios in her case as she is Greek) and would hate to be seen as a copycat, we do not see her though anymore, it's been a few years...
DH says it does not matter, but feel a bit uncomfortable naming my baby as he boy :(

I've never really liked the j names as they sound so harsh in my area and where we are Javi is such a ten a penny name.

Mateo or Emilio :)

lydiamama · 13/12/2013 22:25

I like Carlos if it was for my boy, but Andres is my favourite from your list

FionasFatFairy · 13/12/2013 22:36

DS is Valentino (more Italian, unusual in Spain but they get it)

Leandro
Luis
Diego
Jesus
David (but pronounced Dav-eed)
Cesar
Fernando
Francisco
Rafael (DD would have been Francisco Rafael)
Javier (but the Spanish J is hard for English people to pronounce)

We recently discovered DH's great grandfather's name was Espantaleon (which means lion scarer!)

Liara · 14/12/2013 20:18

The English do not get the és sound. That e seems to be completely beyond their ability.

I even mispronounce my own name when introducing myself in the UK or US. Saves having to repeat it six times...

Conyo, do you really know Kevin Costner de Jesus??!! I remember hearing about it on tv in Spain when he was a small child. What is is like? Does he introduce himself by full name? This is very exciting!
I like Emilio, Marcos and maybe Fernando
