Having a girl any day now...

We are stuck between two names. Every day I seem to change my mind on which name I prefer more!
Firstly Lola - love the name but know its very popular these days. Also that girl on eastenders!!! Our surname ends in 'er'.
Other choice is Macie - I just worry it will get mispronounced forever and maybe sounds too much like Mazie?!
Arrggggghhhh really can't decide!!

There are no other names we both like.

I love them both but would go with Macie. It just sounds stronger, and I don't think the -cie versus -zie sound would be a problem. After all, I've never heard Daisy mispronounced as Dacie, or Tracy mispronounced as Trazie!

MummaDevon · 07/12/2013 17:29

Bramble thank you, I never even thought of it like that!!

Not sure about either, the spelling of Macie looks odd to me and makes me think Macey grey. I prefer Isla and Layla to Lola but don't dislike Lola.

FetaCheeny · 07/12/2013 17:33

Just realised Macey Grey is actually Macy Blush ignore me!

sandfrog · 07/12/2013 17:46

Macie is very pretty, but would spell it Macy.

Rosencrantz · 07/12/2013 17:50

I like Macy, but only when spelled like this.

Rtfairy · 07/12/2013 18:33

I think Lola is very pretty

Frontdoorstep · 07/12/2013 18:45

How are you pronouncing Macie?

Wannabestepfordwife · 07/12/2013 18:48

Macie is lovely but if you really like Lola have you considered Dolores or Lourdes with Lola as a nn

Ilovekittyelise · 07/12/2013 18:56

i like lola, and macy. macie seems like its mis-spelt; is it a recognised form?

MummaDevon · 07/12/2013 20:06

Frontdoor it's pronounced may-see.

ilovekitty Macie is the English variation of the old French name Macy. According to the web it's more commonly used than the 'Y' ending in England. Macy spelling makes me think of the huge American department store although I do like it.

Thank you for all your replies! I'm even more confused now!! Xmas Confused

I thought that was how you pronounced it. The ones I know spell it Maisie.

I think if you spell it Macy people will think you have called her after the American department store.

YonilyDevotedToYou · 07/12/2013 20:25

There is one at our school spelt Macey- do you like that?

picnicbasketcase · 07/12/2013 20:26

Macy is may-see, Maisie is may-zee though. I prefer Lola tbh.

BlueStarsAtNight · 07/12/2013 22:16

I prefer Macie as I think your surname would be a bit strange with Lola if it ends 'er'. I don't think there would be any confusion with pronunciation.

Tapiocapearl · 08/12/2013 22:44

Theres also Marcie and Mary. I know three Lola's

Amy106 · 08/12/2013 23:08

They are both great names, but I like Lola more.

manicinsomniac · 09/12/2013 23:59

I like Macie much better, especially for your surname

Topaz25 · 10/12/2013 16:20

Lola always reminds of the song by The Kinks, which is why I wouldn't use it:
"Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola"

I prefer Macy but I'd spell it Macy.

Topaz25 · 10/12/2013 16:20

Whoops! Meant to say I prefer Macie but I'd spell it Macy.
