Nay from me. Sorry

CatchesTheNightTrain · 06/12/2013 22:39

Nay from me - only every heard it used as a surname.

DPotter · 06/12/2013 22:40

I'm the 3rd nay - can't warm to it - sorry

MelanieCheeks · 06/12/2013 22:41

It's a family surname here, so I find it hard to think of as a first name. Would it be shortened? From experience, it's hard to spell and many people have difficulty pronouncing it!

Vatta · 06/12/2013 22:48

Would you consider other names that shorten to Gil? How about Gilligan? Gilbert? Gilgamesh?

I don't like Gillespie tbh.

sonlypuppyfat · 07/12/2013 04:53

Gil is nice but Gillespie isn't.

JeanPaget · 07/12/2013 05:49

It's the name of a school where I am (Edinburgh) which rather puts me off it. Sounds like a surname to be honest.

Piffpaffpoff · 07/12/2013 07:13

I think of the school too, so it's a no from me.

Slothlorien · 07/12/2013 08:28

Imagine shouting it in a playground.

MrsBungleScare · 07/12/2013 08:29

No.

MummyPig24 · 08/12/2013 19:36

No I don't like it.

Leeds2 · 08/12/2013 19:39

Wouldn't be my choice either.

CuntyBunty · 08/12/2013 19:41

Sorry, no. It's not nice.

MiracleOntheM4 · 09/12/2013 21:10

Sorry no Sad

UriGeller · 09/12/2013 21:15

I like it

HaroldTheGoat · 09/12/2013 21:18

There is something quite appealing about it but i am on the fence, if I met one I wouldn't think what a shit name, but it would definitely be Gil. If it's Gil then I don't think it matters a huge deal if it's Gillespie or Gilbert.

I don't like Gilbert that much.

BillyBanter · 09/12/2013 21:22

I like it. Loads of surnames get used as first names. Not sure how I feel about Gil though, because I don't have fond memories of some kids I knew with gill as a surname.

It's certainly better than the other names suggested to shorten to Gil.

muttonjeffmum · 09/12/2013 21:26

It's a chain of Estate Agents around here - so no! Sorry.

TeamJavert · 09/12/2013 21:47

A definite nay.

wetaugust · 09/12/2013 23:49

NOooooooooooo!

EmpressOfThe7WillowsandTaras · 09/12/2013 23:56

Are you Arsenal fans?

Weegiemum · 10/12/2013 00:34

No, I'd not use it - or any of the other names people have suggested!

squoosh · 10/12/2013 11:22

It's a surname, never heard it used as a first name before.
