Isaac - is it very popular?

My dh has fixated on this name for our baby if it is a boy. I do like it, and it was on our list last time, I just worry that it seems to be climbing the charts and was at number 30 last year (this happened with our daughter's name which suddenly went astronomical and while most we meet are younger than her and there are no others in her school I do find it irritating!) I am a bit worried that Isaac is on the up and may make top ten. Dh thinks this is irrelevant ('I don't care what other people call their babies'.) He has vetoed my other suggestions of Amos (too Jewish - we are not) and Nathaniel (he likes vowel names!)

Just wondering if people know lots of Isaacs (I don't actually know any but do hear it occasionally), if it is likely to date and become this generation's Stephen or Michael!

Sorry, I didn't mean unique as such (as all our DC are!) but there would be no one else with that name.

I know a couple Isaacs who are around 4/5 but I've not heard any younger ones for a while now.

I know an Idris too which I think is equally great :)

I have an Isaac, hate it when people spell it Issac, think it's the double aa that catches them out. He was in assembly at school recently and the visiting person taking assembly was talking about laughter and said there is a name that means laughter... Isaac knew what it was!

I love it, I never shorten it, really happy we picked it. It is much more popular nowadays as I know 3 under 2s locally and have heard of a few more.

I think it's a lovely name, my Isaac is a great character and is full of laughter!

Thanks - I also liked Idris, though with some reservations about having neither welsh or arabic(?) heritage, However it was dismissed as 'too weird' (along with Ezra). Given the propensity for everything to be dismissed as 'too weird' I think we are destined to end up with a popular name anyway!

I Love Isaac, it was on lmy list, but DH vetoed it. There aren't many where we live, but I love it.

I love Isaac, it was at the top of my list had DD been a boy.

However, I must admit that a certain MNer's nickname has made me think of the name a bit differently damn you IsaacCox Grin.

Still love it though. And I don't know any RL Isaacs.

I have an 8 year old Isaac. There are 2 others in his school (1 older, 1 younger) and I know 3 others, plus recently met a baby Isaac! That said, it isn't hugely popular round here compared to some other names (e.g. Oliver, Harry, George, Jack). Yes, it would be nice if it was still as unusual now as when we first picked it, but I love it nonetheless.

pinkpip100 · 11/12/2013 19:39

Oh, and my Aunt insists on spelling it Issaac, to cover all bases! That's probably the worst spelling we've had.

Mattissy · 11/12/2013 19:48

It's a lovely name, I know two, 12 and 5. The 12 year old mum thought she was being really cool and different, lol
