Well buggeration. I really liked the name Lillian :( It's been my "go to" for 5+ years... /sigh

Parent Stephen Malley said: “I have to admit it can be quite confusing having three sons called Jack and two daughters called Lily, but it’s infinitely preferable to not calling them Jack or Lily.

Lol lol lol, that's so funny, especially the unjack bit

Ha, ha. In our Cubs group we have 4 Jacks, two of which share the same surname, so it can indeed get very confusing!

DziezkoDisco · 04/12/2013 22:38

I know two families with kids called Lilly and Jack. Better not like his on fb!

Biscuit
SoupDragon · 05/12/2013 07:07

I guess we all know what addictedtolatte's child is called. :)

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/12/2013 07:30

Un-jack very funny

Saucia · 05/12/2013 07:35

Grin I did actually consider both of those names when pregnant!

Meglet · 05/12/2013 07:36

I'd be pleased if this was true. My name is common, I work with 4 others with my name and IIRC it's still in the top 30 for girls. It would be nice to be more idividual.

Kyrptonite · 05/12/2013 07:43

DS is jack. DSD is Lilly Grin

Oops I'll see what they want to change their names too

JapaneseMargaret · 05/12/2013 08:02

And THIS is why people actively avoid popular names!

Lebkuchenlover · 05/12/2013 15:29

I think we sometimes forget WHY we name a person?!

We name him/her so that he/she can be identified as uniquely as possible. Being one of four Lilys or five Jacks (or Evie, Harry or other super popular name) doesn't excactly do that - they need to add a modifier (surname initial or other adjective) to be identified.

There are 1000s of lovely names out there - lets make some use of them!

Kyrptonite · 05/12/2013 16:13

I thought we named them because we liked the name.

JapaneseMargaret · 05/12/2013 17:24

Well, that's one reason why you might pick up name.

Tapiocapearl · 05/12/2013 20:16

How popular are the names really though? I know about 150 kids, 3 are called Jack and two called Lily.

Kyrptonite · 05/12/2013 20:31

I know 2 Lilly's (1 is DSD) and 3 jacks. I work in a nursery and we never have more than one of them. Usually multiple Thomas's though.

SoupDragon · 05/12/2013 20:33

DS2s class has 5 Jacks :)

misswishy · 05/12/2013 20:36

My dd was the only child with her name in the entire school..... It's a classic name..yes it's in the Bible!

patienceisvirtuous · 05/12/2013 20:40

I know someone who referred to her bump as jack-a-lily - her names of choice :o

Kyrptonite · 05/12/2013 20:45

Grin 5 Jack's? Bloody hell. For some reason my Jack answer quite happily to Elizabeth so I'll just keep calling him that. Or his preferred and rather apt choice of Loki!

WorkingtoohardMama · 05/12/2013 20:46

My dd is lily, after my nan and I still love it and it suits her completely - but everywhere we go we encounter another lily or 2, and it does make me wonder whether we should've picked something else.

I loved that article, very funny!

Levantine · 05/12/2013 20:49

I wanted to call ds Jack but decided it was too popular. I have only met one in seven years, there are however three other children with his name in his class this year

Mrswellyboot · 05/12/2013 20:50

Poor unjack !

Such a lovely name. Didn't go for it though. Luke, Ava, Eve also very popular
