What kind of woman does the name Zoe suggest to you?

I was really surprised/ disappointed to hear it is now top 30 in America. Would this put you off?

Also, please forgive my preggo brain but I can't remember what the dot things over the E are called. Is the name better with or without dots?

I'm a. Zoë born in 1978. Never liked my name as a child but I do now. My middle name means happy which I like in combination, but suspect was coincidental!

Love Zoe

Ilovekittyelise · 08/12/2013 22:27

i like! strong, feminine, fun, and not associated with any particular social grouping. never knew it meant "life"; both zoes i have known are bubbly energetic fun go-getters. and its not ava, which is a huge point in its favour!

printmeanicephoto · 11/12/2013 17:16

The name Zoe has been used for over a thousand years by saints and an empress I believe so hardly 80s!

Also used in New Testament in original Greek to refer to eternal life.

So WAY more classic than most names. Can you tell I'm a fan?

Bonsoir · 13/12/2013 12:00

My mother (b. London 1937) is a Zoe. My DD (b. 2004) has Zoe as her third name.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 13/12/2013 12:06

I really like it too. I don't think it sounds dated, it's pretty timeless.

Being in the Top 30 anywhere would certainly not put me off, I like popular names.

allyfe · 13/12/2013 21:08

There are two in my four year old's class and another in the other class. I know an 8 year old one too :)

Not sure I agree that it is dated - I know too many little ones :)

RaRa1988 · 15/12/2013 19:30

I think you have to be blonde (hair colour, nothing else!!) to get away with being called Zoe. Also, the 'y' on the end in some versions makes me want to pronounce it 'Zoo-ee' - I presume this is incorrect?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 15/12/2013 19:55

I know a very dark, very glamorous adult Zoe.

Banffy · 15/12/2013 22:00

I'm a Zoe. I've only ever met one other one before. I love it :)

crispycake · 15/12/2013 22:22

I'm a 27yr old zoe & I love my name.
As other Zoe's have said I have only ever 3 others. One I went to primary school with, other secondary & the third a few weeks ago at a play group! She was about 2.

Go for it :)

Lesshastemorespeed · 15/12/2013 22:25

Love it!

TimeToThinkOfYourFuture · 15/12/2013 22:30

My Zoe is 3, blonde and the shyest person ever! Obviously I like the name, and it's not at all common while also not weird!

MumpireCallsTime · 16/12/2013 07:46

80s yes but still a nice name.

BettyBi0 · 16/12/2013 14:57

I've just been looking at how Zoe and Zoey (eugh!) are having a surge of popularity in the US now. It seems that over there it is in the same family of names as things like Riley which seem like the American equivalent of chav names to me.

I don't like using that word but I'm looking for a name that isn't tied to a particular social grouping. Most of my earlier suggestions have been ruled out by my partner as they were too posh. Now I'm worried about going too far the other way.

Do you think it has any of the same connotations over here? I'm just remembering Zoe Slater from Eastenders

I love the name Zoe!

Zoeybarnard1 · 12/09/2023 23:46

Hi
my name is Zoey and I absolutely love it.
I am 50 yrs old and for most of my life have only met a few people with the same name but never the same spelling.
I often wonder if I’m the first person with the ‘y’ added at the end!!
i

Zoeybarnard1 · 13/09/2023 00:03

Anyone on here or know anyone named Zoey (that actual spelling!) born before 1972!
My mum tells me she added a ‘y’ at the end because she didn’t like the diaeresis (dots over the o) and loved the way it looked with a ‘y’
I absolutely love my name and the spelling and always have.
it has become a popular spelling now. I’m just curious if there are older ones

peaceinourtime · 13/09/2023 01:47

It’s nice, I also like the shorting of Zo

Amy1485 · 13/09/2023 21:13

I love Zoe but unfortunately my DH vetoed it, sparky and well known without being popular

continentallentil · 13/09/2023 21:27

I think it’s got a nice energy.

I do think it’s getting more popular here, so don’t use it if that bothers you.

Wouldn’t bother with the dots

My Aunt is a Zoey, she's 59.

Zoeybarnard1 · 14/09/2023 23:34

oh wow! Does she know why her mum put a y on the end?
where do you live?
