I think Nathaniel and Samuel sound quite similar due to the end sound, but not similar enough to let it put you off.

I do like Robert though. It is pretty underused now.

AuntieBrenda · 03/12/2013 19:59

I have one Smile
We call him Nate

BoohPear · 03/12/2013 20:01

I love Nathaniel nn Nate. One of my favourite boys names. Not too sure it goes With Samuel though, they sound a bit too samey.

Ilovekittyelise · 03/12/2013 20:16

i think it would probably end up as sam and nate....is that ok together.. or is robert better? or something else entirely?!!!

Love that name I want it but hubby doesn't like it :( so jealous

Ilovekittyelise · 03/12/2013 20:17

auntybrenda are you a fan of six feet under?!

Sam and Nate sound fine. Samuel and Nathaniel don't really, but not sure it matters that much.

I'm a big fan of Robert.

Minty82 · 03/12/2013 20:23

Great name - and gives you Nat, Nate or Nathan as nickname options. I don't think the fact that the ending is similar to Samuel matters as you probably wouldn't use the full names together.
Never been a fan of Robert.

AuntieBrenda · 03/12/2013 21:14

Never seen 6ft under- DH follows extreme sports and heard the name there

puntasticusername · 03/12/2013 21:25

I love Nathaniel. It's on our list. We got it from War of the Worlds though!

Ilovekittyelise · 03/12/2013 21:29

auntiebrenda: one of the main couples in six feet under are nate and brenda!

I love Nathaniel, it's on our short list. DH not madly keen though.

chimchar · 03/12/2013 21:34

I have one too. He is also called Nate.
Bloody ace name! Wink

AuntieBrenda · 03/12/2013 21:38

Kitty - so funny! My mn name is from the show Stella though, can't claim that Smile

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 03/12/2013 21:43

I love Nathaniel with the shortening Nate. It's top of my boys name list.

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 03/12/2013 21:44

Oh and I got it from SFU Smile

WheresMeJumperOhNo · 03/12/2013 21:51

I have one! Half of his nursery/ preschool class called him Daniel Hmm . Once he started school he decided Nathaniel was too much effort to write out and insisted on being 'Nat' at school! We still call him Nathaniel though. Everyone seems to like it.

PrammyMammy · 03/12/2013 23:03

My dh loves it, on his list. It's cute.

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 03/12/2013 23:21

I love it, but I'm biased, as I'm married to one!

Spaghettinetti · 04/12/2013 08:47

Sounds good to me!

RalphRecklessCardew · 04/12/2013 13:08

Great name,

drspouse · 05/12/2013 15:40

We know one and everyone thinks he's called Samuel or Daniel the first time they meet. So unless you are definitely intending to use the nn for both of them, I wouldn't pair those together.

Ilovekittyelise · 05/12/2013 21:41

im not too fussed about how they sound together as whole names, sams always sam and i think nathaniel/nathanael (might use hebrew spelling) would be nate. xmas cards could alternate between:

.....samuel & nate
.....sam & nathaniel
.....sam & nate

[ok so now im just being silly!]

I prefer Robert, tbh.

drspouse · 06/12/2013 12:58

Not to be picky, but Nate is the nn for Nathan while Nat is the nickname for Nathaniel. Obviously you can use any nn you want for any name but that's the traditional shortening of those two names.

So if you're set on Nate, why not go with Nathan? That will also avoid the situation if they were older and both wanted to use the long version, of their names being confused.
