I like nature names.
I like the fact it is not popular, not getting popular, has never been in the top 100 but is also not too out there.
I like the fact people would know how to spell/pronounce it.
I'm happy with the nicknames Saff/Saffy.
The Ab Fab/Donavan references don't bother me.
Other threads on the name seem to have varied opinions so I like the fact it's not too pigeon-holed!

But there doesn't seem to be any very recent threads on the name so opinions please!

I like it!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 01/12/2013 08:47

I love it.

I once taught a very naughty saffron but still love it (thisIis a good thing. It means the name is so good that one child didn't ruin it!)

Alexandra6 · 01/12/2013 08:49

I like it! There's an actress with that name it makes me think of too, saffron burrows I think. I would prefer Saff as a nickname because of Ab Fab as you say but by the time she's older, the link to that programme won't ring as many bells anyway.

moominleigh94 · 01/12/2013 09:17

I love Saffron :) it's our first choice either as a first name (or middle name for Callie) for this DC if they decide to be a girl (two weeks until we find out Grin )

I agree with you on everything - not too popular and not becoming too popular, pretty but strong, natural, Saff is a nice nickname, simple to spell etc :)

baskingseals · 01/12/2013 09:23

Really like Saffron. One of dd's friends has it as a middle name, and she wishes it was her first name. Good choice, IMHO.

BananaHammocks · 01/12/2013 09:24

Wow, all good so far, I'm just waiting for someone to come on and say I might as well call her Turmeric! There's always one!

I do like Seraphina but it has shot up in popularity very steeply recently, plus I'd worry it'd end up being shortened to Sera which is basically Sarah which was a very popular name for my age group so I find it a bit dull!

I think the fact that Saffron is a but dated makes it appeal more, I don't want anything too current/trendy/hipstery.

Amber definitely has a similar feel but is too popular for me, I'm one of those 'nothing in the top 100' types! Amber is currently number 60 but does seem to be getting less popular.

Love it, but its my middle name so I am slightly bias.
I'm Louisa saffron.

I like Wren and Fern but am not that keen on a one syllable name, not sure why! Did consider Renata or Fernanda with Ren or Fern for short!

I like Rowan but for a boy! But the fact is is increasingly used for girls puts me off, once a name starts to be used for girls I think it's time to stop giving it to boys!

Not keen on Indigo, think I will wait til we find out gender (hunch it's a girl though due to nub theory and everyone we know having boys this year!) then if it is a girl I will suggest Saffron to OH, I like to get other peoples opinions first so I'm more confident with it! If he doesn't approve then back to the drawing board.

I'm confused though, where are all the negative comments?? There are always negative comments!

I know a lovely Saffy (Saffron but always Saffy). She's friends with a little Basil though which makes me smile :)

BananaHammocks · 03/12/2013 20:58

Bump!

Any more thoughts?

I read previous threads on the name Saffron and someone said:

"It's a spice. Are you Gwyneth Twatface?"

Made me laugh but also made me think the comments wouldn't be as nice and positive as this!

Bowlersarm · 03/12/2013 21:01

Sorry here's the negative comment!

I hate it. It makes me cringe a bit if I hear it. Just sounds so wet, particularly Saffy.

Not quite sure why.

Sorrel?

BananaHammocks · 03/12/2013 21:05

Don't like Sorrel, it sounds quite unisex!

I can cope with wet!

Bowlersarm · 03/12/2013 21:12

Tarryn?

(Means either thunder, or from a rocky cliff, apparently)

BlueChampagne · 05/12/2013 16:45

I like it. Also Samara.

MrsT2007 · 05/12/2013 18:03

I've taught both Saffrons and Sorrels. All delightful. I wanted Sorrel on our name list but hubby vetoed.

MrsT2007 · 05/12/2013 18:03

Coral?

magicstars · 05/12/2013 18:12

Go for it! Saffron is a beautiful name Wink
