Catriona - I'm a Catriona!

Septimus · 28/11/2013 17:18

I'd just use Kate.

To me, it is the most chic option.

The most classic option being Catherine.

LightTheLittleLight · 28/11/2013 17:23

I've got a Catherine who's sometimes known as Katy or Kate. Love the full name and the shortened versions - always a classic but I never get tired of it Smile

melmo26 · 28/11/2013 17:45

What about katelain

floatyflo · 28/11/2013 19:03

Wow lots of repliess, thank you!

Love Kate, but would like to give here a longer first name. Probably like Caitlin the best. Modern twist on the Katherine/Kathleen classics. Which I do like but not very 'us'.

Keep suggestions coming! :)

Karen

Britishseamonkey · 11/12/2013 20:17

Caitlin is lovely - but it's worth knowing that its actually a mispronunciation of the Gaelic spelling of Kathleen. Was mis used in Australia so much it became an 'actual' name

This history put me off. It might jot you x

Britishseamonkey · 11/12/2013 20:18

*not bother ( jot?????)

kelper · 11/12/2013 20:19

Sorry to hijack but can I just ask those who have a Catherine why is it shortened to kate, not cate? It's been puzzling me for a long time.....

Takver · 11/12/2013 20:45

Catrin is the Welsh equivalent (though admittedly I've never heard it shortened to Kate - but don't see why you shouldn't)

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 11/12/2013 20:54

Kathleen

Lebkuchenlover · 11/12/2013 22:21

Katharine
Katharine
Katharina
Kathryn
Katya
Katinka

I would shorten Catherine, Cathryn to Cate - makes it easier to have the same initial (when it comes to labelling things for school).

Spaghettinetti · 12/12/2013 07:55

There's Catherine or Catharine.

Plus:
Katrina
Katerina
Katja
Catrin
Catriona
Kathleen
Kathryn
Caitlin
Catiness
Catalin
Catalina

My name is Kate. It is katharine on my birth certificate. I hated being known by a different name to my actual name so much that I changed it by deed poll as an adult. It caused so much confusion at school etc, with different names on exam certificates, etc - and when I got married they said it couldn't be Kate in the ceremony, I had to be called by this name that wasn't mine - so I changed it by deed poll before the wedding.

I deliberately gave my children names that can't be shortened.

Each to their own, but just another perspective.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/12/2013 17:02

Katarzyna.

Granted it is a form of Katherine.
