I really like it, its unusual and pretty.

PestoFlashissimos · 25/11/2013 15:16

I think it sounds a bit of a mash-up.

Wannabestepfordwife · 25/11/2013 15:55

It's really pretty and reminds me of the OC

TheNunsOfGavarone · 25/11/2013 19:59

Not particularly keen. It's quite pretty but sounds a bit fussy and made up. I prefer Marina.

soontobeslendergirl · 25/11/2013 20:05

I like it - elegant and pretty without being too cutesy.

I imagine Marissa to be tall, slim with loads of dark curly hair and a ready smile.

jemimastar · 25/11/2013 20:27

I like better spelt with 1 S. I think it's honestly one of prettiest, mot graceful and slightly hippie ( as in a beautiful boho chick ) names out there. If 1 of my closest friends wasn't called Marisa it'd be up there as top choices for us.

TheNunsOfGavarone · 25/11/2013 20:37

Actually yes, nicer with one S. More elegant.

Lifeislikeaboxofchocolats · 25/11/2013 20:45

I think one s is pronounced mah-REE-sa whereas 2 s is pronounced mah-RIS-a ( prefer the latter being in the uk and not italy)

Hold a telephone to your ear and repeat the following sentence twenty times:

"Marissa. No, not Melissa. M - that's M for Mike not N for November, A, R, I, S, S - yes that's two S's, A"

If you still like it then go for it. FWIW I think it's very pretty, but my iphone autocorrected it to Marisa.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 25/11/2013 20:52

Like it.

Trooperslane · 25/11/2013 20:56

Lovely. What jemima and soon said.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 27/11/2013 05:21

I have a friend called Marissa. She has always loved her name. Unusual without being strange.

bruffin · 27/11/2013 08:45

I had never heard this name until i went on a cruise from Cyprus to Eqypt and the name of the boat was the Princess Marissa. I came home and started a new job the next day and the teenage girl i sat next to was also called Marissa. She was nothing like described above, but it is a pretty name and I think I prefer it to Melissa. The girl would be in her late 30s now.

florascotia · 30/11/2013 18:55

There is also 'Maris' - rare but not unknown in Scotland.

lljkk · 30/11/2013 19:05

Ma-REE-suh or Ma-RIH-suh?

mathanxiety · 30/11/2013 20:35

Too frilly. It was the favourite name of a little girl the DDs babysit for, from age 4 to 8. Now that she is ten, she has grown out of it but she's stuck with a hamster called Marissa.
