I really like this name but it seems to be very much out of favour nowadays. I also like Susan. Just wondering what names you like that other people would probably consider boring or mumsy.

I was just thinking the other day that I really like the name Simon but you don't get many young children called Simon any more.

I really like Jane too.

squoosh · 21/11/2013 17:19

I quite like Jane, its simplicity is very pretty.

I like Samantha but apparently it's far too 80s.

Aquariusgirl86 · 21/11/2013 17:22

I like jane too

DrankSangriaInThePark · 21/11/2013 17:23

Samantha is a decade on from Jane, I agree.

Jane is really pretty I think. (though I always Anne sounds dull)

I like Simon too.

I can't wait for these nice, pretty, sensible names to come back. Give it 10-15 yrs.

liquidstate · 21/11/2013 17:32

Both Jane and Anne are on my list. Have a ridiculous surname so keeping it simple! Also Emma, Rose and Fay.

curiousgeorgie · 21/11/2013 19:45

Jane is pretty dull...

Anne I love though.

superlambanana · 21/11/2013 20:31

Sorry, I always think Jane is plain and boring. Kind of in the same camp as Mabel. But it's your child!

SoonToBeSix · 21/11/2013 22:09

I love Mabel

Bowlersarm · 21/11/2013 22:15

I think Jane is plain and boring. But I don't think Mabel is. Everyone's perceptions are different.

I like Susan, and could also by Susie.

Rumplestiltskinismyname · 21/11/2013 22:37

I love jane, and Claire

DramaAlpaca · 21/11/2013 22:39

Love Jane, hate Susan.

I really like Louise.

Emma is my all time favourite girl's name. Unfortunately I had three boys Grin

mamalovesmojitos · 21/11/2013 22:40

I like Jane, Ann and Simon! Classic names IMO and underused recently.

EmpressOfThe7WillowsandTaras · 21/11/2013 22:44

I like Jane, but I have an Aunt Jane who is more or less the ultimate in coolness so I can't associate the name with being boring!

Ann always makes me think of Anne-with-an-e Grin

RegularVoltaire · 21/11/2013 22:46

I think Jane and Anne are both dull and I'm not keen on Susan, although I do like Susanna.

I do like simple names though and really like Beth, Hope, Rose, Kate and May.

Louise is nice and Emma is gorgeous and timeless.

Yika · 21/11/2013 22:48

I love Jane but don't like Susan. I think Jane is due a massive comeback.

Yama · 21/11/2013 22:51

I adore the name Jane. Really love it.

Don't like Susan at all but love both Suzanne and Susannah.

morethanpotatoprints · 21/11/2013 22:52

Jane was a common name used in the 1960's by nurses to name illegitimate children in the homes.
Not for this reason only though it became a popular name.

Arabesque1 · 22/11/2013 10:45

I also love the name Helen. In fact I'd love to see a revival of some of those very traditional names: Helen, Jane, Anne, Susan, Jill.

OP posts:
squoosh · 22/11/2013 10:47

They'll come back in fashion as all names do.

squoosh · 22/11/2013 10:48

Florence and Beatirice and Grace and all those other currently popular names are also 'traditional' names, just from another era.

BigBoobiedBertha · 22/11/2013 11:00

I prefer Anna to Anne personally.

Helen is nice too.

Alison is another one that was very common when I was a child (I was born mid 60's) but rarely gets used now. It seems Alicia or Alice are more popular but they come from same era as Florence, Beatrice and Grace to me. Alison is a more modern version of those.

Arabesque1 · 22/11/2013 11:15

Yes, I suppose 'traditional' was the wrong word. 'Simple' maybe? I'm thinking of the kind of names that were used a lot in the books I read as a child: Enid Blyton, Noel Streatfeild etc.

Your kids will be calling their own kids those 1950s/1960s names, they'll be the height of fashion!

crabb · 22/11/2013 11:31

Very, very, VERY popular name for babies born in the late 50s where I lived. To the extent that of the 46 girls in my form through high school, 8 were Janes.

curiousgeorgie · 23/11/2013 00:02

Jane will always be 'Plain Jane'
