honey - she's mid 40's, brunette, doesn't live in the UK and would be 6ft under if I had my way

Tattiesthroughthebree · 19/11/2013 00:09

Hollie - ok if born in winter
Archie - trendy name

Daniel - good name
Karl - unpronounceable with a Scottish accent.
Georgina - good name
Noah - trendy name
Oliver Cromwell
Peter - Rabbit
Sophie - good name
Tiegan - no.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/11/2013 00:32

Charles (Charlie) - probably Charlie and Lola or Hugh Grant's character in 4 weddings
Susan - Coolidge who wrote the "What Katy Did" books
Stuart - Little or Lee
Stefanie - Steffi Graf
Lisa - Simpson
Claire - any number of quite dull Claires I've known in adminny type jobs
Charlene - someone from neighbours? Australian anyway
Mark - Lamarr or Mark & Lard, DJ anyway
Hollie - Willoughby
Archie - cool cafe where I live
Sebastian - the lobster from the Little Mermaid
Isaac - Newton or biblical
Rebecca - the novel/film, or biblical again
Alex - Alexander the Great
Daniel - Radcliffe
Karl - the doctor in Neighbours (wow this list makes me realise my dreadful taste!)
Georgina - my lovely friend, very cool
Noah - Wyle from ER
Oliver - Cromwell, or the musical
Peter - that annoying boy in the Chronicles of Narnia
Sophie - Sophie's World, that book about philosophy, or lots of nice Sophies I know
Tiegan - like you've spelt Tegan wrong? Had lots of Tegans at school.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 19/11/2013 01:02

its all a bit 19 80s!

MiniMonty · 19/11/2013 01:03

Charles (Charlie) - doesn't really know what's what. Don't name him after the worst Prince of Wales in history.
Susan - no great shakes - no disaster either.
Stuart - a liar.
Stefanie - spelled like that - council estate.
Lisa - council estate.
Claire - can't go wrong with Claire.
Charlene - the wrong end of the council estate with a Father who pissed off before the christening.
Mark - can't fail.
Hollie - love it (but why not spell it properly)?
Archie - If he's christened "Archibald" then all is well and good but NEVER give a child an abbreviated name...
Sebastian - nice, classy - might be bullied. (will be called Seb by everyone).
Isaac - if you're Jewish this will be a hit. If you're not, everyone will think he's Jewish.
Rebecca - see above.
Alex - ALEXANDER = yes but see above comments re abbreviations. "Alex" is not a name.
Daniel - he wooed the Lions and God loved him. Look forward to "Dan" and "Danny".
Karl - yuk - one of the worst German names ever.
Georgina - love this... (George, Georgie). Great.
Noah - have you got a bible handy?
Oliver - OH EVER SO COMMON these days (and a victim in the story)
Peter - can't go wrong, a saint, a fisher of men, an apostle.
Sophie - SOFIA is the original spelling (it's the capital of Bulgaria) and derives from the Greek word for Wisdom. It was the most popular name in the USA for girls in 2012
Tiegan - this is not a name. It sounds like a brand of washing machines.

Check these out...

Morgan
Isobel
Hugo
Rose
Grace
Cornelius
Victor
Winston
Precious (google precious McKenzie)
Anthony
Jane
William
Marie
What about his/her own surname ? (like Jerome K Jerome).

Or try this - go into google translate (or any other version of the net) and find a translator that will give you the ancient Greek or Roman word for:
Beauty
Love
Fabulous
Wanted
(or anything you like)...

MiniMonty · 19/11/2013 01:34

PS - please PROMISE me you won't label this child with an abbreviation:
Tony, Mic and Dave is what "Alex" equates to.
(it's not a real name)
Plus, if you give your child a bizarre or "out there" name which is really hard to spell out loud at school or over the phone as they grow you are saddling that person (who will live to be 80 odd at least) with something they will never thank you for.

REAL names are important so that as we grow we can choose who we want to be. I have a name which I can abbreviate - or not. Sometimes I use it all (and feel very formal) and sometimes I use the short form (and feel very casual). I like the choice...

I would have hated to have been saddled with only the short form of my name: Alex instead of Alexander, Dave in instead of David or Tony instead of Anthony. Awful. Choose a great name - choose a REAL name.

Bear this in mind. You're naming a person who will live for at least eighty years. Tread carefully. Don't go pleasing yourself - think HARD about it and choose well. It makes a difference.

By the way...
Noah and Charlene are never going to run the country.
But they do sound like candidates to be running a traveler camp in Essex.

HAHAHA !

LIFE IS SHORT - MAKE SURE YOU GET IT RIGHT FIRST TIME

Mark: see Stuart
Hollie: smiley toddler, incorrectly spelled
Archie: one of those toddlers whose parents dress in bow tie for weddings
Sebastian: arty
Isaac: pushing other children off the roundabout
Rebecca: quiet, long curly hair
Alex: boring boy, even more boring girl
Daniel: cool teenager Danny
Karl: see Mark and Stuart
Georgina: stout redfaced girl
Noah: see Archie
Oliver: see Noah and Archie
Peter: outdoorsy type, nice person

I like this game!

Charles (Charlie) - known lots, mostly nice guys.

Susan - my ex boss, therefore a psycho.

Stuart - strapping Scotsmen. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Stefanie - STEPHANIE! If I'd been born a boy, my mum would have called me Stephen. Instead she gave me an African name (Ghanaian). I like my name, but I'm white, it causes confusion and I'd rather be a Stevie/Stephanie.

Lisa - Simpson

Claire - Prefer Clare. Both are nice.

Charlene - Common sounding.

Mark - Mark's nice.

Hollie - Holly. Hollie is just wrong.

Archie - Jughead! I like it, but think it's best to be an official Archibald.

Sebastian - Love this. Reminds me of Neverending Story!

Isaac - And this.

Rebecca - I like this, even though I had a friend called Rebecca who was a spiteful bitch.

Alex - ALEXANDER! And all the proper variations are cool.

Daniel - Craig. This is a Good Thing.

Karl - Marx.

Georgina - Famous 5.

Noah - THAR SHE BLOWS!

Oliver - Jamie. ICK. Shame, as it's a nice name but I've come to associate it with posh idiots.

Peter - OK.

Sophie - Nice.

Tiegan - Spelt wrong, is wrong. It's Teagan or Tegan.

DembaBa · 20/11/2013 15:37

Charlie - laddish, cheeky - its so common though, there are all kinds of Charlies Bout.

Susan - woman of a certain age, good, virtuous.

Stuart - drippy

Lisa / Claire - plain, dated

Mark - a real 'bloke'

Charlene - Neighbours, 1980s

Hollie - its Holly. What is 'Hollie'? Stupid spelling

Bored now sorry lol

MiniMonty · 21/11/2013 02:35

And don't forget:

Charles "YOU - LADDIE - STAND STILL" !!!!
