I love this for a girl but have no Persian/Arabic/Middle eastern connection whatsoever so would feel impossibly pretentious. Plus surname would sounds ridiculous with it! :( It'll have to go on the list of names I wish I could use but can't!

It's a restaurant in Edinburgh! Had a hot curry eating contest.... People have ended up hospitalised.

Mutteroo · 11/11/2013 22:27

I know too many eateries with this name & it would be like calling a child Pizza Express for me. Sorry OP, if you love it then go for it, just not my bag.

MikeLitoris · 11/11/2013 22:28

Its the name of a dodgy curry house round here.

kasareem · 11/11/2013 22:34

Ha ha, how fantastic! I've never seen a restaurant called kismet! Well that's put me off which is good as I couldn't use it anyway :) Thanks guys x

used as meaning intended or fated in Dutch.
not sure if it is an actual Dutch word or just colloquial use.
is this the meaning that you were going for OP?

kasareem · 11/11/2013 22:35

Pizza express might go on my maybe list though ...

AnneWentworth · 11/11/2013 22:36

You could use Kader which means fate and as far as I am aware is not a curry house.

kasareem · 11/11/2013 22:37

Yes helspopje, that's what I was thinking of. It's an Arabic word though I think. I thought it was quite romantic until I heard of the hospitalising Curries!

OP posts:
kasareem · 11/11/2013 22:40

Kader is nice annewentworth, but sounds a lot like my name!

OP posts:
TheDoctrineOfWho · 11/11/2013 22:41

How about Veneziana, rather than Pizza Exorees?

Grin
TheDoctrineOfWho · 11/11/2013 22:42

Express!!

CoteDAzur · 11/11/2013 22:43

Except that kader usually refers to the bad stuff that may happen and kismet refers to the good stuff.

kasareem · 11/11/2013 22:46

Pollo picante or dopiaza for a girl? Kebab for a boy?

OP posts:
kasareem · 11/11/2013 22:48

Definitely not kader then cotrdazur, how sad to be named for bad fate

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 11/11/2013 22:52

Many girls are named Kader, though. Makes you wonder about the sanity of their parents.

There are also those who make 10 children and name the last one Yeter (Enough) Hmm

NationMcKinley · 11/11/2013 22:54

I really like Kismet.....if you've gone off it though, how about Margarita? Grin

Mattissy · 11/11/2013 22:59

I'd love a margarita but I'd prefer a piña colada.

kasareem · 11/11/2013 23:06

Ha ha, nation! I do actually quite like Margarita! But I think pregnancy makes my brain a bit odd and probably isn't the best time to chose a name. Or the poor sod will end up being called ritz (because I want a cracker). Hubby has just vetoed kismet anyway...can't think why!

OP posts:
kasareem · 11/11/2013 23:10

Cotedazur, I think ten would definitely be 'yeter'

OP posts:
BaronessBomburst · 12/11/2013 10:43

Lotte (pronounced Lot-ta) or Lottie, from 'lot' which is Dutch for 'fate, or destiny'.

Ohhh Lotte is lovely! That's going on the list! Maybe I'll keep kismet for my next pet, rather than a human...

OP posts:
babyfedleaning · 12/11/2013 20:20

"Kismet, Hardy"

kasareem · 13/11/2013 18:22

Babyfed, that's where I got it from! I think it's romantic... Shame about the dodgy restaurants really
