Help with baby girl names please - Jemima, Felicity or Annabelle?

Hello! My husband and I are pretty stuck with names for our daughter (due Feb). He hated most of my first list (too silly/nicknamey) and I thought most of his first list were too boring/popular. He loves Jemima (I'm not yet sure what I think of it). I love Felicity and we both think Annabelle is a good compromise on Isobelle which is the name we both like but it a bit too popular. Any other suggestions along the same sort of lines are very gratefully received! Thanks!

Jemima.

It would have been DD's name if she hadn't come with one already (she's adopted). It is her middle name instead

Thebuttonfancier · 11/11/2013 17:26

One each so far - that is the problem! Doesn't matter who we ask, we get about a 50/50 vote!! I think Jemima is pretty but I'm not so keen on Jem (a strange girl at school) or Mimi (makes me think of Shameless!!!) whereas I like all of the shortened names for Felicity apart from Flick.... Decisions decisions

I like Jemima. Shorten it to Jemma. And shorten it more to J. /Jay - a great nickname.

eatyourveg · 11/11/2013 17:38

how many syllables in your surname? Felicity has 4 unless you pronounce it flisty as some I know do or felisty as others I know do. Unless your surname is short, I'd go with jemima.

MadameJosephine · 11/11/2013 18:29

Love Felicity, Lissy for short. Jemima and Anabelle always make me think of doll's names

Thebuttonfancier · 11/11/2013 18:50

Our surname only has one syllable so either name works in that sense. This is helpful as I am thinking that we should definitely go with either of our favourite names rather than Annabelle which would be our compromise. Maybe we'll know when we eventually meet her!

They are all lovely, just depends what your surname is

Bowlersarm · 11/11/2013 19:18

Jemima.

Then Annabelle (but prefer Annabel spelling)

The Jemima we know is usually Jemima, occasionally 'Mima' (pronounced as in the last part of Jemima)

I don't like Felicity.

Snog · 11/11/2013 19:29

A vote for Felicity

ZeroTolerance · 11/11/2013 19:34

Do you plan on spending any length of time in the US? I was desperate for a Jemima but have been informed it would be considered a very strange (inappropriate) choice there as it has slavery connotations, like a racist term for a black woman.

Shame as I love it. But we can't use it.

Felicity is a bit jolly hockey sticks for me. I like Annabel - but not with your extra le.

aoife24 · 11/11/2013 20:10

Jemima. I've come across Felicity shortened to 'Fliss' a few times which I can't bear. Arabella seems a bit wet to me.

Coupon · 11/11/2013 22:47

I like Annabelle. Felicity is also nice but I don't like Fliss/Flick/Fizz etc.

Theironfistofarkus · 11/11/2013 22:48

Felicity

AgadorSpartacus · 11/11/2013 22:49

Annabel.

But I'm biased. Smile

picnicbasketcase · 11/11/2013 22:50

I'm not keen on any of them tbh, but Jemima is the best out of them. Despite having a nice meaning, I just think Felicity is a harsh and awkward name, and Annabelle is too wet. No offence intended.

GeorginaWorsley · 11/11/2013 22:58

Jemima.
Have one myself Grin

KatherinaMinola · 11/11/2013 23:00

Jemima. Or Felicity. Not Annabelle though - it's a bit dull.

KatherinaMinola · 11/11/2013 23:04

How about Lucinda? Or Belinda?

Rosencrantz · 11/11/2013 23:49

My name is Felicity, and I use Fliss on occasion.

Anyone pronouncing it with anything other than four syllables is an idiot.

Mutteroo · 11/11/2013 23:53

Jemima was a doll on a 1970s children's program called Playschool. Giving my age away here, but I can never think of a child called Jemima because of that rag doll. Felicity jars when I say it & I don't like the nicknames either. Annabelle also doesnt conjure up a very good image as it was the name of a girl DD went horseriding with. The girl was sweet enough, but her mother was awful. Funny how a person can put you off a name? Sorry OP, I am completely unhelpful aren't I!

What may be helpful is this, DD had about six different names throughout my pregnancy. In the end we found the perfect name for her & 20 years on, it still suits her. When you meet your baby, you'll know what name she should have.

Felicity is the nicest.

Spaghettinetti · 12/11/2013 14:07

I like Jemima best, then Annabelle, then Felicity.

hatsybatsy · 12/11/2013 18:31

Love all 3 names! I would probably choose Jemima if I had to.

How about Cecilia/Cecily/ Celia/Harriet/Alice/Florence? We seem to be on a similar wavelength...
