Could I ask you for thoughts on these names? I've deliberately put the dashes in to avoid popping up on searches! Sorry, I know it looks weird!

We've gone back and forth and back again in these names. We love and find fault with them in equal measure!

Possibly the same reason it converted iPad to aPad? Grin

"I don't like Erin, probably because I'm irish"

And? Confused

SanityClause · 10/11/2013 09:08

I like Clara, but it's come up a lot of times on these threads recently, so I think you'll find it's experiencing a surge of popularity.

In fact, I think all of them are.

I like Claudia best of those (I named a cat Claudia so couldn't have a child with the name). The only adult Claudia I know is pronounced the English way but all the children I know are 'Cloudia's. It's a very versatile name as it's used in Denmark & Spain as well as Germany & Italy.

I like Martha too, recognisable but not fashionable or frumpy.

Allalonenow · 10/11/2013 09:39

Clara is my favourite, classy and beautiful, with Claudia in second place.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 10/11/2013 09:46

Clara, or Martha in second place. Not keen on Claudia and dislike Erin.

AbiRoad · 10/11/2013 09:51

I know 2 Claras, 1 pronounced each way. Really like. I have never particularly liked Martha. Think it is the th sound which a surprising number of people can't say.

CruCru · 10/11/2013 10:04

I like Claudia best (am feeding my 5 week old Claudia now).

In order of preference:

Clara
Martha
Erin.

LondonInHighHeeledBoots · 10/11/2013 10:37

Erin or Claudia, in that order, but I don't really like -a names.

I don't like Martha, and Clara is a bit plain, pretty but a bit boring imo.

Coupon · 10/11/2013 11:19

I like Clara best of these.

forgetmenots · 10/11/2013 14:00

Not keen on Erin (I'm with Maryz on this one)

Love Clara and Martha. Claudia is nice, but I don't like the meaning ('Lame'). These things don't bother most folk though!

Frikadellen · 10/11/2013 18:30

None of them are names I would pick but of the 4 I prefer Claudia the other 3 are just too popular for my liking.

Aarow · 10/11/2013 20:32

I like Erin for the sound, but as I'm Irish I think that, however much I love home, I wouldn't use it.

I've never met a Claudia, Clara or Martha. I wouldn't go for Martha because a lot of people would say Marfuh (my DC for instance) which doesn't sound that nice tbh.

Hulababy · 10/11/2013 20:37

I like the name Martha best

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/11/2013 22:03

I intensely dislike Martha but the other three are lovely.

I think Clara is my favourite, though Claudia is really lovely too.

CormoranStrike · 10/11/2013 23:33

Erin is best, ageless, classless and no pronunciation issues.

lottiegarbanzo · 11/11/2013 08:45

I wouldn't describe Erin as ageless. I think, in the UK, it is only recently being used widely at all and is very fashionable. It will date.

Someone mentioned that Clara is mentioned increasingly on here so may be becoming more popular. If we went by names mentioned on here, most girls born a year or two ago would have been called Beatrice and Elodie. They weren't. More popular yes but not widely popular.

SteamboatSprings · 11/11/2013 08:56

Erin sounds very American to me.

I think the others are more classic names.

Anchoress · 11/11/2013 11:29

With the other Irish people on not liking Erin. It is a bit like calling your child Belgium or Morocco with the spelling tweaked slightly.

Plus it was a brand of canned soup, maybe it still is.

Martha is lovely, followed by Clara.

hettienne · 11/11/2013 11:45

Personally not keen on Claudia (either pronunciation) - just seems a bit clunky and not very pretty to me.

Erin - meh. Quite American but inoffensive.

Martha and Clara are both lovely, classic and not too popular. I would also suggest Elsa as along similar lines to these.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 11/11/2013 11:52

Erin is my least favourite, agree some people would pronounce claw-dia cloaw-dia

noodlebum · 11/11/2013 13:01

Love Clara! Erin is nice too, the others not my cup of tea.
