Girls name..just starting out..two polar opposite sets of criteria

Hi (apologies for rather long post - Id appreciate it if you manage to read to the end!)

We're still fairly newly pregnant - so have a very long time to decide. But DH and I are currently sitting at polar opposites of the "names we like" sphere, so would appreciate any ideas anyone has to bridge the gap.

So focussing on girls names.

I love unisex style /surnamey names (I appreciate not to everyone's taste). I also like modern and vintage names. I would prefer to avoid super popular names (though appreciate you can't predict the names of others in school). I grew up with a unisex name, and have only ever met three or four others with the same name.
So my favourites include:
Charlie
Harrie
Eddie
Denver
Ryan
Reyna

DH on the other hand is boring traditional. He had a popular name (top ten for our generation) and wasn't phased that there were many in his year at school. He hates the old people name trend. And all the names he likes (limited in number as he prefers to say no to names than to actually generate new ones!Smile) are the girls we went to school with:
Rebecca
Samantha
Grace
Lindsey
Katherine
Emily (meets my old lady criteria but is top 5)
Amy

So far the types of compromise that might be on the shortest are:
Charlotte (Charlie could be used if its suits her, but I still worry this is a little too girly)
Georgina (I love George - but worry about the prince and whether this will become super popular. We'll have to decide before next ons lists are published so won't be able to gauge impact).
Jamie (possibly)

So does anyone have any great ideas that'll help us both find a name we love?

FYI - Im not of the opinion woman pushes so gets to pick names! Im also aware of the issues some people have with unisex names.

Thanks very much!

What about Claudia? Your DH gets the pretty, classic, traditional name and you can call her Claude/Claudie for something a bit more unisex.

Is that the sort of compromise you're after?

KateCroydon · 09/11/2013 19:07

There was a 15thC French general called Ann. HTH.

jaykay987 · 09/11/2013 19:36

Yes onsie. That's the sort of compromise we need. Thanks

TobyLerone · 09/11/2013 23:11

You can't call a girl Beau.

'Belle' is the feminine form of 'Beau'.

Cassidy

Laurie
Piper
Rowan

I am totally biased as have a Georgina (age 10) when Georgina was falling off the popularity charts, but love it so much we had to have it. However, unexpectedly as she could not pronounce her whole name when a toddler she called herself "intakeofbreath-gina" and her nickname has been Gina ever since. I thought I hated Gina until my adorable child called herself Gina and it has stuck, so watch out NN don't always work out as expected. However she has only ever lived in the USA and now Germany where Gina works.
Mostly she is a Georgina, she has lots of lush very dark hair and big blue eyes with a rakish personality so to me Georgina to a T ; )

I also like Stevie (Stephanie) and Freddie (Frederika) - also knew a Frankie (Frances) and Robbie (Roberta).

Squiffyagain · 10/11/2013 07:10

Vivienne? Can be shortened to viv or Vic or Vicki
Victoria can also have the same shortenings
Jessica can be joss, Jess, jez or Jessie
Evelyn is beautiful, can be shortened to Evie, Eve, Lynn

I know a young girl called Charlie. Always thought I'd like it, but I don't, not in a young child, anyway. Georgina I'm against as DCs school overrun
With Georgia's already.

HoneyandRum · 10/11/2013 07:46

What about Marcella? I hardly ever meet anyone with that name and it's such a strong one. Marcel, Marcy, Marc and many other nicknames.

jaykay987 · 10/11/2013 07:50

Thanks everyone - loads of great suggestions! I'll run these past DH and see if any meet the grade! Grin
