Dp is trying to sell me his name choice and I reeeeally don't know. At the beginning I said no way in hell, but have to admit it is growing on me. It's Gustav. What do u think? We are Scandinavian origin so there is a link.
I just think people would laugh. But dp really loves it! I'm only 22 weeks pg so bit of time to decide. And it may be a girl! Just wondering what opinions are on the name...

I quite like it. My first thought was Mahler Smile

Rhubarbgarden · 08/11/2013 13:17

I love it. But I'm biased - I have a Gus Smile

Velve · 08/11/2013 13:44

I love it, but then I'm a Finn so I'm biased.

willyoulistentome · 08/11/2013 13:49

My first thought was Klimt.

I like it I think.

NoComet · 08/11/2013 13:55

Given the Swedish connection it's great and I like Gus.
The one I know is in his 50's and lovely, so i can see a little cute baby Gus and an adult one, quite easily.

cuppachai · 08/11/2013 13:57

I like it :)

Rosencrantz · 08/11/2013 13:59

I hate it. Think it's going to be a Marmite name.

curlew · 08/11/2013 14:00

Depends if his last name will be Scandanvian or British,

LittleBairn · 08/11/2013 14:03

I like it, but I wold like a little Gus.

LittleBairn · 08/11/2013 14:04

I would like to add I've never known anyone in RL that would laugh in a persons face for their choice of name.
The main thing is that you love the name and feel confident in your choice.

SecretNutellaFix · 08/11/2013 14:09

How close to Scandinavian heritage are you?

Are you both from that area and it will be immediately apparent, or are you two/three generations down the line and will feel the need to explain his name if they look at you sideways?

I like it. If you aren't sure, but your DH loves it so much, could it be used as a middle name?

Tillyscoutsmum · 08/11/2013 14:15

I like it and considered it for DS (really liked Gus as a nn). We discounted on the basis we had no Scandinavian heritage (went with Fergus instead)

curlew · 08/11/2013 14:21

"I would like to add I've never known anyone in RL that would laugh in a persons face for their choice of name.

No. The main thing is that your child will like (love is an odd word here) his or her name, and will not have to be extra especially confident in order to "carry it off"

Meringue33 · 08/11/2013 14:25

Love it!

PattyPuddy · 08/11/2013 14:27

I like it. I hope it doesn't get shortened to "Gus" Sad

SirChenjin · 08/11/2013 14:31

Don't like it, sorry. I think there are far nicer Scandinavian names.

When you say 'heritage' - do you mean you are from Scandinavia, or your great great grandfather was?

ShriekingGnawer · 08/11/2013 14:50

I would think 'Holst' and 'Mahler' and wonder if he was musical. I like it.

LittleBairn · 08/11/2013 15:00

curlew its impossible to know if your child will like the name.
My parents gave a normal not too common name, I hate it to the point of refusing to tell new people it as a kid because I felt it was embarrassing.
I know plenty of others with unusual names and they hate it too.

I don't think you even need to have an unusual name to hate it tbh

I really like it :D

BackforGood · 08/11/2013 15:07

I'm not generally one for unusual names, but I like that. It's not only a 'proper' name, but it reflects your heritage, whilst still being obvious to everyone who is English-speaking how to pronounce it, and spell it.
Gus is nice too, as a shortening.

BackforGood · 08/11/2013 15:08

Blush Oh Lord - terrible grammar - hope you can work out what I mean Grin

Rhythmisadancer · 08/11/2013 15:13
