How would you pronounce it? Soft th eeah or hard t aeah? I love it the second way but would assume most people would pronounce it the first way (am not in the slightest way pregnant or intending to be so no innocent children will be harmed, just like the name but only rarely heard it pronounced the way I think it!)

Theee ah

Like it a lot, but would go for Theodora on the BC, and shorten.

sallysparrow157 · 05/11/2013 03:25

See, I don't like theeeeah so much but love taeah but know in the uk the default pronounciation will be theeah

DC would say Feeah!

sallysparrow157 · 05/11/2013 03:32

My liking of the name comes from knowing a child called thea who came from a French speaking African origin (no idea what country) so the soft th is just not how it is said in my mind. However as I don't live in a French speaking African country I know if I called a child thea she wold be called theee ah.

Thhhea. If you like it the other way, how about Tia?

Pinkbell123 · 05/11/2013 08:03

I'd say Th-ea. Tia makes the same Tea-a sound you mention but it doesn't look as nice written down I don't think!

Thea is lovely though, I like it as a nn for Althea.

elcranko · 05/11/2013 08:12

Thee-ah for me too. As the pp mentioned, if I heard it pronounced the other way then I would assume the name was spelt Tia.

halecromp · 05/11/2013 09:03

I read Peter Andre's Mum is called Thea and presumed it was pronounced Thee-a but when I watched one of his TV shows someone called pronounced it Tee-a.

I know somebody with this name and its pronounced Tay-a

squoosh · 05/11/2013 16:21

Go for Tia is that's the sound you're after.

Thea is thee-a.

squoosh · 05/11/2013 16:22

in the UK that is!

Thee-a.

Reminds me too much of 'fear'. That's obviously not a popular opinion as nobody else ever seems to bring that up.

I prefer Tia.

Spaghettinetti · 07/11/2013 19:26

Peter Andre's mum's name should be pronounced 'Thee- a' as the Greek letter is definitely a 'th' sound. Not that we're in Greece, but how you say it in Greece has huge repercussions, if you stress it in different places, it can mean, 'goddess', 'auntie' or 'view'... Just something else to think about!

??? - VIEW
??? - GODDESS
????- AUNTIE

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/11/2013 19:49

Would pronounce it with a th

Much nicer than tia...

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/11/2013 20:55

Thee-ah

Bue · 08/11/2013 19:07

It can be Tee-a or Tay-a. I've known one person which each pronunciation, but I imagine the latter had to correct people quite often! I don't think that's a reason not to use it though. Both pronunciations are lovely.

Bue · 08/11/2013 19:08

Sorry I meant it can be Thee-a or Tay-a. I've never heard Tee-a!
