For our 2nd girl will probably use either Orla or Anna, surname is 3 syllables and quite long. Can't decide between the two - any thoughts? Thanks

I prefer Anna.

Anna

Anna! It will never date.

Fayrazzled · 01/11/2013 16:25

I'd only use Orla if I were Irish or had Irish conections.

NoComet · 01/11/2013 16:33

Ann Zzzzzzz..... a

Sorry, I'm not mad on Orla, but Anna is only one step up from Jane in dullness.

NadiaWadia · 01/11/2013 16:39

Anna is lovely - classic and international. Orla I find just meh, and I don't get the current popularity of it.

lottieandmia · 01/11/2013 16:40

Anna is lovely - was on my shortlist.

Anna is the safer option, beautiful name though.

Orla is interesting and quite cute but I wouldn't use it

Love the name Orla,it's beautiful.

HappyHugs · 02/11/2013 20:17

Orla, it means golden princess in Irish. Beautiful soft feminine name. A classic in Ireland.

HappyHugs · 02/11/2013 20:19

Ps...but only as long as its not pronounced in that awful way in parts of England where the 'r' disappears and it sounds like Ola. The Name should sound like 'R-la'

Anna

OnesieTwosie · 02/11/2013 22:42

HappyHugs, most English people would sound daft pronouncing the "r" in Orla! Like you were putting on a fake Irish accent.

elcranko · 02/11/2013 22:49

Anna

shmuf · 03/11/2013 07:52

I'm glad someone mentioned the irish meaning of orla. In hebrew, orla means foreskin and I never understood where it came from as a name!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 03/11/2013 08:12

Oh god, Anna for sure! Now that I know Orla means foreskin! Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/11/2013 09:04

Órla

Stokes · 03/11/2013 11:43

HappyHugs - I'm with you. Love Orla, hate the way some accents pronounce it "Awla" or "Orler".

halecromp · 04/11/2013 14:00

Love both
