Gwendolyn and Byron

Would we/our children be ridiculed or considered odd? My and my partner pretty much have our hearts set on these. Byron has been a frontrunner for years and Gwendolyn has family connections and I think it's lovely.

What are your opinions?

Gwendolyn = The Important of Being Earnest - but pretty and I love it!
Byron is a no for me = Lord Byron and really a last rather than a first name

I don't like either, sorry. But it's your choice, who cares what anyone else thinks!

squoosh · 25/10/2013 15:05

Gwendolyn is a bit frilly for me and reminds me of Gwendoline Mary Lacey, but Gwen is sweet for short.

Quite like Byron, but can only picture it on a tall, handsome.....umm.... Byronic sort. Although I'm sure if I met a short, bespectacled Byron I'd get used to it.

NotYoMomma · 25/10/2013 16:27

I like both of them

ReturnPlacenta · 25/10/2013 16:49

I like Byron if you can guarantee your child will be ravishingly attractive, or at least alternative with a rapier wit.

Gwendolyn isn't to my taste, Gwen is very doughty and plain and I think there are more beautiful names than the long version.

Whether you would be ridiculed or considered odd would depend I'd say on where your child will grow up.

I'm not sure on Gwendolyn but I LOVE Byron!

Rhubarbgarden · 25/10/2013 19:47

I think Gwendolyn is beautiful. I wouldn't choose Byron because it suggests a certain image and character. I prefer names that are a bit more neutral so the child can make it their own without everyone they meet having a preconceived idea of what they should be like.

I teach in South Wales and have two students with those names in the same class. I think they're lovely names and I've never heard a negative word said to either of them.

Byron yes but Gwendolyn maybe.
