Had a really strong feeling yesterday that the baby was called George...

But for various reasons cannot call him George. Absolutely CANNOT use this name.

What names are similar in feel?

Have gone through various MN threads about boys names already. Was keen on Jacob (which DH likes) but do have some issues with it. Had been keen on Rafael but DH does not like it.

DH seems to have a thing for classic, two-syllable names - names that are easy to live with.

BUT we have a very very common surname so needs to be a bit more unusual than, say, Jack (which I wasn't planning to use anyway!).

I like nearly all of those suggestions.

I really like Edward. Just have to think whether, with our really common surname, he would forever be meeting people with exactly the same name. This seems to both me more than DH who has actually had this happen!

I like Anton too but our surname ends with a "n" as well.

Michael, Joseph, William, Alexander and Gabriel are all taken in our family - i like them all but can't use them as v close relatives (or in one case my godson).

Not keen on James, Theodore or Sebastian but thanks anyway for the suggestions!

Have tried Evan/Ivan/Ewan on DH and he doesn't like them. Also Marcus - I though he liked this at first but apparently it was a joke! There are lots of names I don't like so not a case of him vetoing everything - I'm just not telling you about those!

Quite like Freddie - Frederick.

I like Arthur.

If I went with Edward what middle names would go? Surname has one syllable - won't say what letter it begins with as have nearly revealed it anyway.

Did google Edward with our surname and it's not the name of anyone famous and objectionable, which is amazing.

Any more suggestions also welcome!

What about Edmund instead of Edward and maybe Ned as a nn?

Mim78 · 25/10/2013 17:34

I do like Edmund or ppossibly Edmond. Was put off it by an episode of Miranda where she really mocks this name.

Funnily enough Edward I middle name of one of my brothers, George of the other and arthur of my dad!

I think maybe I don't like any name until am familiar with it!

We've recently put Edward at the top of our list and we have a one syllable surname too. I think most names go with it as a middle name, one's I've thought incl
Edward Alexander
Edward Jonny (DH massive England rugby fan)
Edward Alan
Edward Casper
Edward Henry

Also love George but DH's sister in law is George and our niece is Georgia, both with our surname!
Someone on here recently mentioned using Woody as a nn for Edward which I'd be tempted to use

WheresTheHoneyMummy · 26/10/2013 06:59

Edward James

Lubiloo · 26/10/2013 07:31

With a very popular surname if not use Edward which is also very popular. How about these 2 ones:
Quentin
Darius
Reuben
Marcus

Lubiloo · 26/10/2013 07:36

Sorry for the typos, meant 2 syllable ones
