He thinks they're too twee.
I kind of agree, but love Tilly.

He likes Alexandra, but it's not for me.

I like different names, but not toooo out there.

Ie not Jupiter, but not Jane?

We don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but I love thinking of girls names!

Any ideas?

I know a Tilly who is actually Elizabeth. It's her second name - I think she's Charlotte Elizabeth, which would be out for you, but maybe Harriet Elizabeth would give you the Tilly sound?

Natalie just about shortens to Tilly, too.

BrightestStarInTheSky · 25/10/2013 13:09

My daughter is called Tilly. I love it

DontmindifIdo · 25/10/2013 13:28

right, where you are going wrong is discussing cute nicknames you like with your DH when you know he doesn't like cutsy nicknames. What you need to do is pick grown up sensible names that have the nickname you like from them but not mention the nickname at all. So if you like Tilly, suggest Natalie or something else that shortens to Tilly and see if you can win him over to that. Never metion the potential nickname until little Tilly has arrived. Then you can just start using it. Mention it to your family and friends and they will start calling her Tilly. Bit by bit, it'll get to the stage where her full BC name is just what daddy uses. You win, without having to fight.

AngryBeaver · 25/10/2013 20:51

Hmm, I like Wren. But I know he'll just go "pfft!"

Tilda?

I do really like Harriet, probably more than Matilda, but dh's accent just ruins it!

I like Irish names too?

NoComet · 25/10/2013 20:54

Bryony Nanette G.........

TwllBach · 25/10/2013 20:59

I know of a Tilly that is shortened from Natalie if that's any good?

bail16 · 25/10/2013 21:15

My daughter is called 'Olive'. We've had mixed reactions, but we love it!
We also like Eliza, Elsa, Isla, Edie.

Good luck x

DontmindifIdo · 25/10/2013 21:18

Would Harriet be Hattie at home? Would your DH's accent sound good saying Hattie? Then go with Harriet, and then rename Hattie once she's here!

AngryBeaver · 26/10/2013 08:46

Ooh, I'd forgotten I liked Edie!
I LOVE Hattie, and he sounds better saying that..more like hadday? Still not great.
And then I have to take into account how people will pronounce it in THIS country too! Hiddy, I suppose. Confused

Emmeline (could be Emmie for short)
Lara (on its own or short for Larissa)
Lena (Madeleine with Lena as nn or just Lena)
Leah
Georgia
Elise
Chloe
Freya
Katherine (nn Katie or Kate or Kitty)

I love the suggestion of Annie -- maybe with Anastasia as the full name. But you couldn't use Nanette as a mn then.
How about a name like Anastasia or Annabel with Nan or Nanette as a nn? Wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Irish names:
Nora
Una
Orla
Aoife (or Eva)
Fiona
Finola
Maeve
Rosaleen
Roisin
Caitriona

AngryBeaver · 26/10/2013 19:57

Thanks for the list math, unfortunately the only he i like was Kitty.
Confused

Mabel?

mathanxiety · 26/10/2013 21:44

Kitty would be a long shot for me too I have to say.

How about Nina? It's a bit like Nanette...

AngryBeaver · 27/10/2013 01:06

Mabel's just TOOO old lady.

Not nina...knew a horrid one!

I love the name Edie!
Would agree with the suggestion of finding a name you like & not mentioning the nickname option. DH was insistent that our children have 'proper names' & hated the thought of giving them shortened names that in his view were not real! My DC are 18 & 20 & have been known by their nicknames all their lives.....Can't recall even DH ever using their proper given names?

mathanxiety · 27/10/2013 01:32

How about Juno?
It's not Jupiter and it's not Jane and it wouldn't be too much for someone from NI to pronounce.

Alannah? Is a name originating in Irish for 'darling'.

AngryBeaver · 27/10/2013 01:38

No to Allanah. Just not me.

I quite like Juno, but dh just laughed, and sighed!

If growing bean in my belly is a girlie, we are naming her Isla !

TaraKnowles · 27/10/2013 02:03

Amelia or Amelie with nn Mimi or Ammy.
Ruby
Maddie

Have fun with your new little baby.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2013 02:15

Ciara? You could spell it Keira or Kira.

kiwik · 27/10/2013 03:34

Elodie - if you like Edie?

I'm really struggling for a girl's name - have lots on the list for DS4, but DD1 may well end up nameless. Only name DH has suggested is Miriama, but that's too Kiwi for me. I quite like Fern and Hebe, but he laughed at both those suggestions.

Iwaswatchingthat · 27/10/2013 07:06

Eden - nn Edie (pronounced Eedee

It goes with your other names.

AngryBeaver · 27/10/2013 07:23

Not fussed on Ciara, math.
Nor elodie.

Is hebe pronounced heebee?
I've never heard of miriama, is it common here?

OP posts:
AngryBeaver · 27/10/2013 17:39

Don't mind Eden, but prefer just edie
