Niamh is very pretty it was on my list but oh said no

NoComet · 19/10/2013 15:23

Niamh is my favourite of those. I still can't pronounce Aofie.

meerschweinchen · 19/10/2013 15:24

I love all three of these names, but especially
Aoife. I guess she will have to explain pronunciation to people, but it's such a pretty name, it's worth it, in my opinion. Sophia is the most straightfoward name in terms of spelling and pronunciation, and it is lovely, but does seem to be getting really popular.

KateBeckett · 19/10/2013 15:25

I love Aoife :)

Mumof3xx · 19/10/2013 15:28

Is aoife - eefa?

apprenticemamma · 19/10/2013 15:33

Thought so lol

apprenticemamma · 19/10/2013 15:35

keener on an Irish first name so Sophia is not a forerunner. Niamh is 75th most popular in UK and aoife isn't on list. Argh. !!!!

I love Aoife.
Niamh would be my second choice from your list.

Xavielli · 19/10/2013 15:53

I have a little half Scottish Aoife :) not had any problems with pronunciation but many with spelling. Niamh is our go to girls name for this one.

Inkspellme · 19/10/2013 16:15

all are lovely - Aoife is usually pronounced Ee-fa not Ee-fur it that makes any difference to you.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/10/2013 16:17

I love Aoife

apprenticemamma · 19/10/2013 16:18

hi inky yeah meant to type eefa but smartphone decided otherwise. I know a few relatives called aoife so ffamiliar with pn not everyone else is though!

Aoife definitely!

Pinupgirl · 19/10/2013 16:22

I love aoife and was one of the names I wanted for a dd but didn't use it as pil insisted it was spelt eoife and pronounced A-faHmm Put me off using it as they were so arsey about it but I love it.

Coupon · 19/10/2013 16:23

I like Sophia best of the three.

lljkk · 19/10/2013 16:23

Slam me for dullness but I'd choose Sofia because it will get spelt and said correctly more often. And I think it's prettier, so win-win all round.

sleepingbeautiful · 19/10/2013 16:30

I like Niamh best, and actually think it's a lot less common than the other 2 at the moment (well not Aoife, but if you count Eve/Eva/Ava/Evie etc). I know loads of Sophies and Sophias from 0-20 in age.

Inglori0us · 19/10/2013 16:32

I love Aoife, it was a front runner for our daughter as we wanted an Irish name, but as my first name and our surname is always misspelled and mispronounced I was concerned it'd be a huge PITA for her (we live in England). Niamh is also gorgeous and people at least know how to say it, if not spell it.

If constantly spelling it won't annoy you, then go for it! I'm just a stroppy baggage!

Tikkamasala · 22/10/2013 22:20

Niamh! Lovely name and I don't think it will be too common.

aquashiv · 22/10/2013 22:47

Aoife lovely and not too common.

twoboysundertwo · 22/10/2013 22:48

aoife. it's the most beautiful name. I picked it out- but had two little boys

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 22/10/2013 22:51

agree with inglorious - if it's not a PITA with your surname and the likelihood of having to spell it out, then go with Aoife/Niamh. Otherwise Sophia is lovely and my personal fave.

elcranko · 22/10/2013 23:39

I think all three are gorgeous and am struggling to choose a favourite!

I know two little Niamhs and one Sophia, I don't know any Aoifes.

I'm going to say go with Aoife!

Bunbaker · 22/10/2013 23:52

"Slam me for dullness but I'd choose Sofia because it will get spelt and said correctly more often."

Erm, isn't the usual spelling Sophia?
