I give up... I've got myself in a muddle...

Not sure what names I even like anymore let alone want to give my dd2 due in five weeks, any suggestions - self inflicted criteria/preferences:

  • I like unusual names but not 'made up' ones
  • as an example of the above and criteria 2, I need a sister for Briar
  • however no nature names or floral themes
  • I have an irrational fear of picking a fad name
  • Nothing too girly, babyish etc

Any thoughts?

Nb. Disclaimer I don't think all names that sit outside of this criteria are not good names but you've got to have some way to narrow these things down :)

This crossed my mind cordeilia so good to hear your experience soontobe... Choosing Briar for dd1 (however much I love it) is causing me such a headache for dd2 - at 36 weeks I'm starting to panic!

We've no experience of same initials in our family ichats - but as soontobe says, it's not an issue. It was really a tongue-in-cheek comment from me, because you'd mentioned liking one of the names I'd suggested Grin

I love the baby names threads so I get really excited to get a mention!
Don't panic - you've clearly got great taste Thanks

Blythe is a super name & it goes with Briar. Only issue will be with post when their older & it could sound a bit twee.

How about:
Aurora
Indigo
Wren
Lark
Elisha
Merys (met one today & thought it was a beautiful name)
Arla
Iya
Scarlet

There's so many names to choose from & when DD2 makes an appearance, you'll know what to call her. If you don't, then again don't worry as you have a few weeks to decide on what you want. Best of luck OP!

I find Briar and Blythe a bit of a tngue-twister, and I end up getting the ls and rs mixed up.

What about Greer?

Thanks all - some interesting new ones, what do you think of Hester/Hesther?

I do hope the name will just come to me when she's born - but also don't want to confuse dd1 by not telling her the name straight away, is this important? X

I like Hester on it's own but not paired with Briar, Though I can't be clear about why!

Hester is nice, I still like Blythe :)

What about:

Lilith
Audrey/Audra
Piper
Fallon
Nyree

lchats · 18/10/2013 23:18

Love Audrey, but dp can't get Corrie out of his head! Like piper too but does it sound a bit American? Not that there is anything wrong with that just like old English sounding names :)

OP posts:
lchats · 18/10/2013 23:21

Ps my surname ends in a 'ton' so some names like Fallon don't work well unfortunately Hmm

soontobeslendergirl · 18/10/2013 23:30

Shame about Audrey, i was thinking more Hepburn and Tautou than Roberts :o

I don't think or Piper as particularly American - I have two living nearby, 1 girl and 1 boy.

Hopefully something will feel right once the baby is here - it's good that there are some things on the table at least - did you have a list to start with that you went off?
