Could we have Barnaby and Betsy?

Found out today I'm due with a dd, we already have Barnaby for ds, could we realistically have Betsy for dd?

I love both names on their own but is it too much in the way of b and y??

I think the 2 names are lovely on their own but too "cutsey" and twee as a pair.

Sorry!

DitsyDonkey · 10/10/2013 19:51

Oh absolutely, that would be an adorable sibset! Realistically they will only be regularly introduced as a pair when little and so the cute factor is great!

loveandsmiles · 10/10/2013 19:54

Definitely ~ lovely x Smile

ImAFrequentNameChanger · 11/10/2013 02:52

I think it's too much together sorry.

BuntyPenfold · 11/10/2013 06:57

I think it would be great :)

QoQ · 11/10/2013 06:59

I like both names, I don't see the problem with samey names really, once they're older they will rarely be referred to together.

Bluebell99 · 11/10/2013 06:59

Think about whether you would like to be an adult called Betsy! I know I wouldn't.

Pooka · 11/10/2013 07:01

Too much IMO.

What was that awful programme called with barnaby and Becky?

Rhubarbgarden · 11/10/2013 07:32

It would make me smirk.

Bluebell99 · 11/10/2013 09:17

Aren't they similar to flintstones names?! Barney, Fred, was one Betsy??

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 11/10/2013 09:21

That was Betty, Bluebell.

I think the names are cute, and congratulations on your pregnancy OP. But then one person's cute is another person's twee and cutesy. It's down to personal taste; I know a lot of people wouldn't have used my DD1's name (and maybe DD2's) because they're both popular at the moment. There will always be someone who doesn't like the names you've chosen. Ultimately it's your opinion that counts :)

curlew · 11/10/2013 09:34

Why are people assuming that they will never be introduced together past toddlerdom? Of course they will- and as teenagers and adults the "cutesyness" will just be incredibly annoying.

And Betsy's no name to give an adult either. If you are going to use it, go for Elizabeth then she'll have some choices. She may love Betsy, but if she doesn't, she has loads and loads of other options.

NoComet · 11/10/2013 10:01

Yes definitely Elizabeth if you want Betsy or a stronger B name if you want to keep the alliteration (DSIS and me alliterate and we never minded)

Barbary and Bethan
Barbary and Bridgit

InkleWinkle · 11/10/2013 10:07

It might sound like you'd given birth to 2 teddy bears.
Nice names on their own though.

TheBookofRuth · 11/10/2013 10:08

I think that's adorable. I love Barnaby, it's my all-time favourite boys name but sadly DH has vetoed it.

I'd echo considering Elizabeth, nn Betsy, though. It's a lovely name that gives her lots of options.

TheGirlFromIpanema · 11/10/2013 10:18

I think it sounds twee and 'try hard', sorry.

I love Betsy and Barnaby is ok, but together they are more suited to pets or teddy bears imho.

curlew · 11/10/2013 10:25

As a rule of thumb, I reckon if people say "Adorable!" or "How cute!" about a name choice it's time for a rethink. Unless, obviously, it's a shortening or nickname for a non adorable, non cute full name.

Coupon · 11/10/2013 10:40

Too cutesy as a pair IMHO.

argylesocks · 11/10/2013 13:39

I love it but I'd use Elizabeth on the birth certificate. That solves the cutesy problem and the same initial post issue. And I know two adult Betsy's who don't seem to mind!

looki · 11/10/2013 15:12

I think both names together sound more suitable for a pair of kittens....sorry!

comewinewithmoi · 11/10/2013 15:14

Too much!

How about Elsie, or Josephine (Josie)?
