Love Cassia but doesn't go with sn. Don't like Cassandra but love Cass and Cassie.

Which category does it fall into??

Prefer Casey

WhatKatyDidnt · 08/10/2013 20:38

Cassie nice but not keen on Cassidy. How about Cassie on its own or Caroline nn Cassie?

Department · 08/10/2013 20:49

Isn't Cassidy a boy's name?

The only one I know is a boy and he laughed at the HT when asked why he was late for school this morning....

flaquark · 09/10/2013 09:07

I like Cassie
Not a fan of Cassidy

Isnt Cassie traditionally a nn for Catherine? could that work?

JustBecauseICan · 09/10/2013 09:10

Cassidy is a surname.

Cassandra, or just Cassie, in a completely different league.

Wishfulmakeupping · 09/10/2013 09:16

Cassidy American 90's name to me
Cassandra is classic and quite beautiful but because of the only fools connection I wouldn't use it

ihearttea · 09/10/2013 09:19

They will be lumbered with the nickname 'Butch' which isn't the best!

Cassie is cute though

squoosh · 09/10/2013 13:11

I know a lot of people with this as a surname so can't see it is a first name I'm afraid.

SingSoftKittyToMe · 09/10/2013 14:55

I personally like Cassidy for a girls name.

LauraChant · 09/10/2013 14:59

I like it too.

meditrina · 09/10/2013 15:02

Cassidy is a transferred surname, that really only works well on a boy.

My main association is as a surname - David Cassidy

Otherwise Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

thamesk8 · 09/10/2013 15:18

Thought as much. Cassidy is ditched.

SoftSheen · 09/10/2013 15:19

Well it's not exactly a classic, is it? To me, Cassidy as a girls' name is of the same ilk as Piper, Riley, Bailey, Harper etc.

If you really don't like Cassandra, why not just call her Cassie?

badtime · 09/10/2013 20:11

Cassiopeia?
Dorcas?

DottyboutDots · 10/10/2013 05:21

Cassandra is a name, cassidy is a surname. Surnames as names are naff New world.

smithwillsam · 10/10/2013 08:10

My daughter name Cassidy Isabelle. We love the name. We get really positive responses about the name and her siblings agree it is the best name ever.

LauraChant · 10/10/2013 09:04

Surnames as first names have been around for donkey's years. Many have migrated into becoming "proper" first names now. Stuart for example. So I can't really understand the problem!

Coupon · 10/10/2013 09:13

Would Cassie work as nickname for Catherine?

scarfaceace · 10/10/2013 09:33

I know a Cassidy; she's about 35 years old now, and I've never known anybody to call her 'Butch' (and she certainly doesn't look butch!). I like it.

squoosh · 10/10/2013 10:17

Yes, Scottish surnames have been used as first names for donkey's. Irish surnames being used as first names is very much a modern thing.

Rafferty
Cassidy
Reilly
Flynn
Casey
Quinn
Kennedy
......
and a million others.

All common Irish surnames but have never met an actual Irish person with one as their first name.

squoosh · 10/10/2013 10:22

Of course not saying you shouldn't do it if you want to, just that Irish surnames as first names do sound very American teen TV star to me.

notallytuts · 11/10/2013 17:12

I LOVE the name cassidy!

Yumsnet · 11/10/2013 21:20

Maybe Cassida? Or Cressida?

MrsEllsmore · 11/10/2013 21:34

I really like Cassidy... but then I have to admit I am a fan of surnames as first names and I'm not averse to American sounding names...
