Time is running out, my daughter is due in a few weeks and we still haven't decided on a name. I seem to be adding to the list all the time rather than shortening it.

Please help by giving your opinions on the following names:

Matilda
Florence
Grace
Daisy
Jasmine
Hattie
Ruby

Thanks in advance Smile

Matilda - love
Florence- love
Grace - too popular
Daisy - nope
Jasmine- nope
Hattie - prefer Henrietta
Ruby- nope

ProfondoRosso · 04/10/2013 07:52

Matilda - lovely
Florence- used to love but now makes me think of David Cameron
Grace - lovely
Daisy - not keen
Jasmine- I actually love this name. It got a bit overused in the 90s but it's lovely
Hattie - Might date a bit as is quite trendy
Ruby- not keen

Congratulations on your soon to arrive wee girl! Smile

Love all of them apart from Florence.....magic roundabout, DC

Hattie is lovely.

Hettie is cute though too.

Bunbaker · 04/10/2013 08:01

Hattie is short for Harriet, which I prefer. I like the rest. DD has one of those names.

AnnaNimitty · 04/10/2013 09:00

Florence has been ruined by Florence of the Machine fame, Harriet
by Harriet Harman. Hattie is nice though. The others are a bit common.

Also love Charlotte...

Daisy Florence and Charlotte all great.

I don't like Hattie or Ruby.

Others are ok.

Monkeymonstermum · 04/10/2013 10:17

Daisy and Ruby - I personally think both will date - a bit like Pat and Janet from the 40s/50s - ie not timeless and more cute little girl names but not so good when grown up.

Jasmine - wouldn't be my choice

Hattie - I have a thing about shortened names - would never use them personally, love as nn but would register as Harriet or Henrietta. Think if you did it that way they have a proper grown up name (just in case become Prime Minister one day!!) but a cute little girl name too.

Florence / Grace - love both - think Florence fav

Matilda - really like it and love Tilly for short

Monkeymonstermum · 04/10/2013 10:18

Oh - and Charlotte is lovely (and love Lottie for short) - fits the PM test in later life too!

Rtfairy · 04/10/2013 11:31

Thanks love Lottie as a nn for Charlotte x

Matilda - great name, my favourite of your list

Florence - too marred by association with the Tories now, for me. I would wonder if the parents of Florence were Tory or apolitical.

Grace - too popular
Daisy - bit cutesy
Jasmine - nice / OK
Hattie - would assume NN for Harriet
Ruby - nice
Charlotte - lovely name

sidneyseagull · 04/10/2013 12:12

Matilda, Grace and Hattie are my favourites from your list. Hattie Grace is sweet Smile

telsa · 04/10/2013 17:08

Charlotte - really charming.

TallulahBetty · 04/10/2013 20:53

Jasmine and Ruby are lovely. The others are not.

Thanks for the comments, just goes to show how varied tastes in names tends to be, we will hopefully narrow it down to 2 names before she's born and see what she looks like Smile

Love Daisy but am biased. Love Hattie as nn for Harriet (wanted it for dd2 but dp didn't).

AmberDextrous · 06/10/2013 16:58

Wow that's v similar to our list,
save for Jasmine & Grace not so keen on those two

Thants · 06/10/2013 17:04

Personally I only like Jasmine, the others are too twee and babyish

notadoctor · 06/10/2013 22:08
