Its a great name if you live in Wales or have Welsh origins. Do all those people saying it's ridiculous not realise it isn't an unheard of name in Wales? There are 3 Merlins at my workplace.

costumething · 29/09/2013 22:50

It certainly isn't a joke name in Wales. Shock

Ruprekt · 29/09/2013 22:51

Ridiculous!

SpookyNameChange13 · 29/09/2013 22:53

I like it.

luckyclucky · 29/09/2013 23:06

There's a Merlin in DC school, Welsh mother (we are not in Wales) everyone is used to his name here but I do wonder how he will get on at our bear-pit of our secondary school because he isn't the kind of kid who can carry off a one-of-a-kind name.

elcranko · 30/09/2013 00:06

Wizard.

BackforGood · 30/09/2013 00:20

No. Just No

Ablababla · 30/09/2013 00:26

I had a great uncle Merlin. Very gay and extremely funny you'd have to be a bit of a character to pull it off.

toobreathless · 30/09/2013 00:42

I like it & am generally pretty conservative in my tastes!

pickledparsnip · 30/09/2013 00:44

I love it. I live in Cornwall and have come across a few down here.

headsspinningforachange · 30/09/2013 00:49

Great as long as you intend on sending him to Hogwarts

daughterofafarmer · 30/09/2013 09:15

I know two. Aged late 20's very charming, handsome and popular and the other is 3! I love it and would if DH would let me Blush because I have seen the name on an adult it has never stuck me as being odd.

Either way you are never going to forgot this name.

Tavv · 30/09/2013 11:18

Odd and wizardy

waikikamookau · 30/09/2013 11:20

i do know one, but I still don't like it sorry

BurberryQ · 30/09/2013 11:21

quite a nice name for a horse, otherwise no, definitely not.

waikikamookau · 30/09/2013 11:21

the merlin I know has a sister called Gwen,
perhaps there are welsh connections.

BurberryQ · 30/09/2013 11:23

ofc there are Welsh connections - the proper name for Carmarthen is Caerfyrddin e.g. 'Merlin's Castle

elfycat · 30/09/2013 11:27

DH wanted this for DD1. It was probably after the sorcerer but he argued it was a bird and a helicopter but that might not be relevant After all there are other bird names Robin, Wren, Jay, Raven.

To be fair the idea of naming my daughter after a bird that would happily rip the throat out of small squeaky things did appeal but...

I pointed out her name might be shortened to Lyn, a name he doesn't like. So we named her after a hobbit/ fictional flower instead.

bishboschone · 30/09/2013 11:33

How about griffin?

MsJupiterJones · 30/09/2013 11:40

Emrys?

Meringue33 · 30/09/2013 19:07

Love it.

I know a Merlijn but he is Dutch.

WinteronPluto · 30/09/2013 20:55

I don't think it's a good idea.

GillyBillyWilly · 04/10/2013 08:03

I know a merlin... Late twenties... Very cool guy... Very popular... Everybody loves him!

First time I met him I was like "ok but what's your REAL name?!" Grin
He laughed and said people always ask him that... Whilst showing me his ID!

Ilovekittyelise · 04/10/2013 10:56

is this for a pet?
