I have always loved the name Imelza for a girl, I have never seriously contemplated using it though as I can't imagine calling it out in a playground for example. What do other people think?

I've heard of Imelda and Demelza (Cornish place name used as a girl's name) but not this. So my first thought would be 'made-up hybrid' but I expect you're going to enlighten me!

Otherwise, if it is a known name, sort of similar to Imogen or Keziah, so interesting but not way out there.

I read it in a book about a magic cat when I was 9... Grin

'read it in a book about a magic cat'

^There's your answer! Grin Never name your child after a magic cat!

Get a magic cat and call it Imelza.

I would also think 'made up' and a bit silly.

What's wrong with Imelda or Isolde?

Fishandjam · 30/09/2013 00:52

I'd think it was Imelda, but spelled wrongly. Sorry!

YouHaveAGoodPoint · 30/09/2013 00:58

I am sorry but I don't like it that much. It sounds made up or, possibly, like a chemical. Confused

Isolde or Demelza are nice.

I read a book about a magic cat called Gobbalino But I don't think that would be a nice name.

I think people would get used to Imelza though.

It's a name used in the Alchemist's Cat and also the Deptford Mice apparently... hmm maybe I will save it for a pet

Yes save it for a pet! Imo not very nice name to look at or the sound of it.

squoosh · 30/09/2013 02:23

I've only ever heard of Imelda, she was a baddie in Grange Hill.

CleverOl10 · 30/09/2013 21:17

My mum is called Imelda - she often gets shortened to Mel or Meldy.
