Hello! I am just 7+3, so early days and no idea about the sex of the baby yet. However, we've started to think about names because, well, it's fun!! We're pretty set on Frank for a boy. Got a few ideas for girls, would love people's thoughts!

Erin - think this is my favourite
Ramona
Yolanda - this might be a bit too "out there" for us
Emilia - would be constantly confused with "Amelia"?
Alice
Lucy
Rosa
Iris
Martha
Eleanor
Tess - DH not so keen
Rowan

Also open to any other suggestions! Thanks Smile

Ramona is lovely not biased at all
Also live Iris

headsspinningforachange · 29/09/2013 14:17

Love ffs Blush

SkipandTink · 29/09/2013 14:22

I like Iris and Tess, I don't know of any girls with these names, so not too common, which is nice. I am 6 weeks and also thinking of names already and Tess is one of the ones I like, it's sweet but not too twee, and can be grown up or Tessie for nickname. It's nice! :)

JuniorMint · 29/09/2013 14:45

Thanks for your replies. I like Tess from Tess of the D'Urbervilles, DH isn't sure on it though.

I'm curious if Tess is originally a shortening of something else. Does anybody know?

JuniorMint · 29/09/2013 15:04

Teresa?

SomethingOnce · 29/09/2013 15:13

Ah, yes - of course!

SomethingOnce · 29/09/2013 15:15

From the list, I think Alice is nice.

elcranko · 29/09/2013 16:40

What a lovely list! I love Erin, Alice, Iris, Rosa, Martha and Eleanor! The others are OK. I don't dislike any of them!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/09/2013 16:45

LOVE Yolanda - have loved it ever since I saw it in a story book when I was a little girl!
Love Alice
Love Martha
Love Eleanor but prefer Elinor
Like Tess and Arin
Don't like Rowan at all for a girl, but love it for a boy.
Hate Ramona, sorry.

squoosh · 29/09/2013 16:49

Tess is also short for Elizabeth or Esther which is far nicer that Theresa. to be honest though I'd use Tess as the full name, it's lovely.

At the other end of the spectrum I also really like Ramona, it's so gutsy and feisty.

TheCricketWidow · 29/09/2013 16:53

Iris..love it

OutragedFromLeeds · 29/09/2013 17:19

Good list!

Yolanda is terrible and I'd avoid Emilia, but all the others are lovely. Really like Rowan and Alice.

JuniorMint · 29/09/2013 18:37

Thanks for everyone's thoughts! Our surname is an O' name, like O'Reilly but not that (although we don't have an immediate Irish connections!) if that makes any difference.

OP posts:
SomethingOnce · 29/09/2013 19:06

Rowan would be very O-ey, then.

Rowan O'Brian, Rowan O'Reilly...

Littlecherublegs · 29/09/2013 19:54

Really great list!
Especially like Martha and Erin.
The only ones I don't really like are Alice, Yolanda and Tess.

Vijac · 29/09/2013 20:23

I like Lucy, Iris and Ramona best. Not keen on Yolande and Rowan can be confusing as more than one pronunciation. I love the name Ramona, my only qualm about using it is teasing about being a 'Mona'. Although I also think mona is a lovely name.

smother · 29/09/2013 20:23

my favs are

Alice
Lucy
Rosa
Iris
Martha
Tess

hard to decide which is nicest as all gorgeous!

kiwik · 30/09/2013 01:40

Love Ramona from your list. I like Iris, but don't love it.
I find girls names really hard.

nicelyneurotic · 01/10/2013 11:38

Iris is lovely. Erin is quite nice too.

Don't like Ramona.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 01/10/2013 12:34

A name ending in an a (ramona and Martha) sounds odd with an o' surname IMO.

TallulahBetty · 01/10/2013 12:36

Ramona, Iris or Eleanor. Don't like any of the others.

Erin with an O' name would be nice.

I like Alice and Tess also.

JuniorMint · 02/10/2013 17:59

I agree about names ending in an "a" with an O' surname- it forces an arrrr sound, like "MartharO'Neill".
