Ok...here is my list. DH has already poo-poo'd a few of them but I thought I'd post the whole list to give you a 'flavour' of the kind of names I like.

Cherry
Clementine
Calista
Luna
Misty
Persephone
Ramona
Aisling
Allegra
Claudia
Stella
Reina

Not even got round to thinking of middle names yet but suggestions welcome for first &/or middle names very very welcome. Smile

Hmmm think i still prefer Clementine overall but will put it to DH (he wasn't sure about Clementine).

I LOVE Penelope but friends of ours have called their little girl that. Grrrrr....

And yes I loved Anansi Boys! Haven't read his new one yet (Ocean at the End of the Lane)...might save that for when i'm on maternity leave Smile

Love Talitha, also Persephone and Clementine are gorgeous.

Pandora, Este, Margot, Perdita are all beautiful too.

racingheart · 27/09/2013 15:30

Love Allegra, Claudia and Stella. Calista is in the Chardonnay camp to my ears and Clementine tries too hard. The others are OK.

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 15:33

Perdita was on the list but I keep changing my mind on it. I was reminded of it recently after re-reading Jilly Cooper books after a mn thread on them Blush

charleslingus · 27/09/2013 15:42

Ha, I read that thread, went to dig out mine and can't find them. Downloaded the lot!

Perdita is one I'd love to use, but it doesn't work with our names. Would love to meet a little Perdy.

BlueChampagne · 27/09/2013 15:43

Vashti
Corinna

LadyFlumpalot · 27/09/2013 15:45

What about Claudine? I really wanted Tabitha for DD but it was vetoed by DH. Sad

Thumbwitch · 27/09/2013 15:46

What about Calliope?

EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 16:03

What about Ondine/Undine?

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:11

Where are you people getting these names from?! I thought I pretty knew all the names... [grin}

Corinna is lovely. I do like Tabitha too but that's also the name of a cat we used to have....

Calliope reminds me of the word cantaloupe. No good reason for this but it does mean Calliope is off the table..

Not struck on Ondine/Undine

Ottiline is nice if you like ine names, as is Delphine or Amandine.

nameberry is a great website for less predictable names, don't know if you know it?

EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 16:18

I met a Kaliani once

[Kal-ee-ah-nee]. She was a fucking cow, but the name's nice.

defineme · 27/09/2013 16:28

Cherry and Misty strike me as American type nicknames or possibly cat names? - in fact my Goddaughter's cats are Luna and Misty!I think they stand out from your list as odd.
The rest of your list are much of a muchness: only the odd one crosses class boundaries-mainly very posh.

Stella is what dd1 should have been if dh hadn't vetoed on account of the lager. It is my favourite name because it's strong and so many girls names are weak or fluffy. I have known Stellas from every kind of background and I think a Stella can be anything.

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:28

Quite like Delphine.

I think we must move in very different circles Eldritch...Grin

EldritchCleavage · 27/09/2013 16:30

Probably not, I'm just in an area with a high pretentious twat quotient. I don't...socialise with them or anything, honest.

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:30

I like Stella because it's strong but also because of the Jamie T song. It's not the normal sort of song you'd name a LO after but then neither is Melody (rolling stones song that DD is named after) Smile

AmandaPandtheNightmareMonsters · 27/09/2013 16:34

Never sure about Perdita. What with it meaning 'lost'. I used to like Mallory (West Wing nut) but was put off when I found out it mean something like 'sad'.

mumbaisapphire · 27/09/2013 16:37

First thoughts on Cherry is 'popping her Cherry' sorry. I don't know if the kids these days even use that phrase-probably not but I wouldn't want to use it for that association.

Love Claudia (I have one so am biased) and Stella is nice, as is Allegra. I liked Allegra too but was vetoed by DH. It is also the name of an allergy medication in the US/Canada if that bothers you.

Clementine and Persephone are just a bit fussy for me.

BryonyBear · 27/09/2013 16:38

Cherry - thinking how long it will take someone to ask her, when older, if she's popped hers
Clementine - again, will be sang the song
Calista - ok-ish
Luna - awful
Misty - lap dancer??
Persephone - I have this on my list but my mates call me mad. Greek myth depicts her as queen of the underworld. Bit dark.
Ramona - no, just no.
Aisling - agree, need to be Irish
Allegra - think it sounds like a model of a car
Claudia - pretty
Stella - prefer Estella which my DP won't allow as he has a drunk Aunt called Stella & he thinks it will get shortened.
Reina - sounds kidney related

Have you considered Farrah, Leatrice or Alethia..x

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:42

How Irish do I need to be for Aislilng? I could maybe rustle up a great grandma -clutches at straws-- ? Would it make any difference if we spelt it Ashling (though I do prefer 'proper' spellings)?

I like Farrah. Leatrice makes me think of lettuce. Am ambivalent about Alethia.

I'm not too bothered by meanings so I can keep Allegra & Perdita on there for now.

OP posts:
AmandaPandtheNightmareMonsters · 27/09/2013 16:47

It's not just meaning- it is very similar to the word for lost in lots of languages. Perdido - Spanish, Perduto - Italian, Perdu- French. May not bother you, but just so you know.

Ashling. No, just no.Grin

pygmy · 27/09/2013 16:49

I love Claudia.
Cherry, Luna and Misty are a bit hooker-ish

DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:50

Aw....what if we shield little Perdita by being too skint to go on any 'forrin' holidays. Would that work? Then if she gets to 18, wants to travel abroad and thinks it's a problem it's up to her to change it by deedpoll...? Wink

I'm not winning on Aishling/Ashling am I?

OP posts:
DawnOfTheDee · 27/09/2013 16:52

I like Cherry cos of the Amy Winehouse song of the same name.

Aren't the most famous hookers called Belle and Moll....? Wink I thought those names were more hippy than hooker but I welcome all opinions!
