Is Claudia too harsh a name for a baby girl? I like it but can't quite imagine anyone under 40 carrying it off...

I really like the name Claudia - my other half wasn't too keen though .........

daimbardiva · 23/09/2013 13:40

Oh, I really like it! And I don't know any little Claudia's so go for it!

efffy · 23/09/2013 13:42

I know a lovely little Claudia. It really suits her.

SnoopySnoopyDoggDogg · 23/09/2013 13:43

Think it's a lovely name. I know a 20 something Claudia but no little ones.

jeee · 23/09/2013 13:48

I like the name, but can see that it's not really a baby name.

However, I think that it's better to have a name that works when you're an adult than to have a lovely baby name that's never going to seem properly grown up.

CruCru · 23/09/2013 14:10

I love it. If you want a baby name, why not call her Cloudy?

CruCru · 23/09/2013 14:11

Sorry, meant as a nickname.

Meglet · 23/09/2013 14:16

Yes, it's fine. And she'll only be little for a few years.

squoosh · 23/09/2013 14:16

I love that Claudia is popping up in every second baby thread! Grin

She'll be an adult a lot longer than she'll be a child so don't let the fact it isn't babyish put you off. It's actually a positive.

CruCru · 23/09/2013 16:52

Sorry, I may have started a couple of those threads.

CordeliaRose · 25/09/2013 20:54

Love it. You could always use 'Claudie' as a baby nn - as in the actress Claudie Blakie.

If you're going for the 'claw dee ah' pronouciation that is Grin

itsnothingoriginal · 25/09/2013 20:55

Love it Smile

BlueShirtBlueTie · 25/09/2013 21:06

I think it sounds too harsh, for both a child and an adult tbh. I think it's the claw-dia pronunciation. It's the claw sound that puts me off.

ShadowSummer · 25/09/2013 21:10

I think it's fine for a baby.

And even if some people think it's slightly too 'adult' for a baby, she'll grow into it.

specialsubject · 25/09/2013 21:11

pretty, but it means 'lame'.

oh well, all names get the piss taken at some stage.

ZZZenagain · 25/09/2013 21:12

it is an awful name

Dylemma · 27/09/2013 21:37

Love it. Friend just named her baby this.

tammytoby · 27/09/2013 21:59

The meaning would put me off. Claudia is derived from the latin claudus meaning disabled/lame. I would hate my dd to find out the meaning of such a name, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2013 22:00

I like the sound of the name, but wouldn't use it because of the meaning.

Eddiethehorse · 28/09/2013 08:14

Yes!

sleepdodger · 28/09/2013 08:57

Claudie is a Nn for a baby?

Writerwannabe83 · 28/09/2013 15:05

I think it's a beautiful name - I have suggested it a few times but DH says no! Gutted!

JumpingJackSprat · 28/09/2013 16:48

Nobody gives a shit about meanings of names in real life - there might be a moment when she is 12 when she and her friends look up meanings of names and she thinks "Claudia...lame...well, that's a bugger" and then she will get on with her life. Some of the most popular names have crap meanings but doesn't put anyone off.

Claudia is a beautiful name.

pilates · 28/09/2013 17:03

Claudia is a lovely name.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone mentioned the meaning.

squoosh · 28/09/2013 17:16

The 'lame' thing wouldn't put me off it at all to be honest. The only name I would run a mile from due to its meaning is Pippa as it's currently used in more than one country as a slang word for various sex acts.
